General Information On Adacel Vaccine
Adacel Vaccine is used for preventing diphtheria, pertussis, and tetanus in people from 11 to 64 years of age. Its generic name is Tdap vaccine, and it belongs to the class of medicines called vaccines. This vaccine works by providing exposure to a small dose of bacteria, so that the body can develop an immunity against it. This drug is used only for preventing these diseases and cannot treat an already active infection.
Side Effects for Adacel Vaccine
Some people who have recently received Adacel Vaccine complain of headache, tiredness, mild nausea, vomiting or diarrhea, mild fever, chills, body ache, or joint pain. Local area reactions may also develop, including redness, tenderness, and pain or swelling at the site where shot was given. These side effects are temporary and diminish within a couple of days, but you should seek medical help if you feel faint, have seizures, experience extreme drowsiness, or high fever within 7 days of receiving the shot.
Sometimes, you may also develop an allergic reaction to Adacel Vaccine because of some ingredients in the vaccination. An allergic reaction can be identified by hives or rashes all over the body, severe dizziness, trouble breathing, or swelling or itching on the face, tongue, throat or lips. If you develop an allergic reaction after receiving Adacel Vaccine, you should seek immediate medical attention.
Precautions
You should not buy Adacel Vaccine if you have already received a similar vaccine in past, developed very high fever (more than 104º), suffered from a neurologic disorder, fainting, shock, seizure, uncontrolled epilepsy, or Guillain Barr syndrome. You should inform your doctor if you are allergic to latex or if you have a weak immune system, neurologic disorder, brain disease, or a history of seizures. Do not take another Adacel Vaccine within 5 years. You must remember that Adacel Vaccine should not be taken by anyone less than 11 or more than 64 years of age. Another vaccination is available for children less than 11 years. Pregnant women and breastfeeding mothers should use this drug with caution, as its safety during these conditions has not yet been established.
Adacel Vaccine Dosage
A single shot of Adacel Vaccine 0.5ml is given to the patient intramuscularly, and not subcutaneously or intravenously. It cannot be mixed or reconstituted with any other medicine. The drug is usually administered into the patient’s deltoid muscle, and it should not be administered in the nerve, trunk, or gluteal area.
Interactions
Your doctor will not recommend you to buy Adacel Vaccine if you have already received a similar vaccine within the past 5 years. You should also not take it if you are taking any oral, injectable or inhaled steroids or medicines for treating rheumatoid arthritis, psoriasis or other autoimmune disorders. Such medicines may include leflunomide, etanercept, efalizumba or azathioprine. You should also not use drugs that prevent an organ transplant rejection, including cyclosporine, basiliximab, mycophenolate mofetil, tacrolimus, sirolimus or muromonab-CD3. Apart from these, tell your doctor about all the prescription and non-prescription drugs you are taking at present, including injections, oral medicines and topical applications.
