General Information On Anafranil
Anafranil is an antidepressant used for treating OCD symptoms. Its generic name is Clomipramine, and it belongs to the therapeutic class of tricyclic antidepressants. You can buy Anafranil in the form of oral tablets. This medication works by affecting the chemicals of the brain, which may have become unbalanced due to this condition. Sometimes, Anafranil can also be used for treating panic attacks, ongoing pain, and depression.
Side Effects for Anafranil
Some of the mild side effects that Anafranil patients may initially experience include blurred vision, dry mouth, nausea, stomach pain, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, unpleasant taste, anxiety, dizziness, tiredness, restlessness, trouble concentrating, nightmares, insomnia, increased sweating, impotence, difficulty having orgasms, and decreased interest in sex. Most of these side effects are temporary and subside as the body gets used to the drug. However, you may need to call your doctor if you experience any of the serious side effects of Anafranil. These include muscle stiffness, unusual weakness, easy bleeding or bruising, pale skin, increased urination, lightheadedness, sudden headache, problems with balance, speech or vision, weakness or numbness in one side of body, chest pain, or fainting.
You should also seek medical help if you start experiencing symptoms of a new medical condition. These include trouble sleeping, panic attacks, behavior or mood changes, hostility, agitation, irritability, impulsiveness, aggressiveness, hyperactivity, increased depression, or suicidal thoughts. An allergic reaction to Anafranil can be identified by difficulty in breathing, swollen face, tongue, throat or lips, hives and rashes. If you develop an allergic reaction, you may need to seek immediate medical attention.
Precautions
Before you buy Anafranil, you should inform your doctor if you have an allergy to the drug, or to any other tricyclic antidepressants such as nortriptyline or imipramine. You should not take this medicine if you have a history of blood, heart, kidney, liver, breathing, eye, or intestinal problems, heart attacks, eating disorders, mental or mood conditions, seizures, tumors, or an overactive thyroid. As this drug can lead to blurred vision and dizziness, you should not do any such activity that requires clear vision and alertness. Examples of such activities include driving and operating heavy machinery. You should also avoid alcohol if possible, since alcohol may worsen the side effects. In order to minimize lightheadedness and dizziness, rise slowly from a lying or sitting position. If you are to undergo a surgical or dental procedure, you should inform your dentist or surgeon beforehand that you are on Anafranil treatment.
Children, elderly patients, and those involved in strenuous activities such as sports should use Anafranil with caution, as they may be more at risk of developing heart problems. Unborn babies can have withdrawal symptoms when exposed to Clomipramine during pregnancy. Therefore, this medication is not recommended to be used by pregnant women. Anafranil also passes into breast milk and may harm a nursing baby. Therefore, breastfeeding mothers should also not use this drug. If it is extremely necessary to take this drug, it would be advisable to stop breastfeeding the baby.
Anafranil Dosage
Initially, you will be advised to take Anafranil 25mg per day, and within 2 weeks, depending on your response to the drug, this dosage can be increased to Anafranil 100mg per day. The tablets should be taken with meals so that no gastrointestinal effects are triggered. The maximum dosage given to a patient can be Anafranil 250mg per day. In order to minimize sedation during the day, you will be advised to take this drug at bed time.
Interactions
You should inform your doctor if you are taking blood pressure or heart medications, anti-psychotic medications, heart rhythm medications, or drugs like cimetidine, guanethidine, methylphenidate, warfarin, or phenytoin as these may interact with Anafranil.
