General Information On Androcur
Androcur has three types of actions on the androgens produced within the body. In men, it is used to treat cancer of the prostate gland, when the cancer is not amenable to operation. Some cancer-causing functions and systems require stimulation from male sex hormones; the medicine weakens the stimulation from the sex hormones; which in turn helps to restricts and treats prostate cancer. The medicine also reduces excessive sex drive in men. In women, Androcur drug is indicated to treat abnormal hair-growth on face, beard or chest. In opposite cases, some women may suffer androgen-related loss of hair, leading to baldness. Abnormal acne and seborrhea would also be generally present along with such alopecia.
Side Effects / Precautions For Androcur
Cyproterone acetate is the main component of this medicine. Jaundice, hepatic toxicity liver failure may occur in men with prostate cancer. The medicine restricts your procreation capacity during treatment; however, you will regain the ability after discontinuing the drug. Brand or generic Androcur may cause some tension in the breasts. Missed doses may lead to bleeding. Follow the dosage regimen exactly as your doctor has recommended.
Cyproterone acetate should be taken only under medical prescription and it is not meant for normal hair-loss. Avoid the medicine until you attain puberty, if you are pregnant or breast-feeding your baby. If you have not undergone orchidectomy, two tablets, two to three times a day may be prescribed for you. If you are taking the medicine for reduction of sex drive, one tablet of 50 mg, should be adequate. Your doctor would recommend the appropriate dosage, depending upon your response and requirement. Take the tablets with water, after meals.
