General Information on Avandamet

Avandamet is a prescription drug which is a combination of rosiglitazone and metformin. It is used to regulate blood sugar levels. The drug works by reducing the amount of sugar produced by the liver and absorbed by the intestines. Avandamet also makes your body more sensitive to the insulin produced naturally by your body. It is available in tablet form and is administered orally. Your doctor may ask you to buy Avandamet to keep your blood sugar levels in check.

Side Effects for Avandamet

Avandamet has its share of side effects. Some people may suffer from minor side effects, while a few patients may be affected by severe side effects. Some patients may not experience any side effects at all. The most common side effects of Avandamet are: mild diarrhea, back ache, joint pain, mild headache, tiredness, vomiting, stomach upset and cold symptoms including a sore throat, stuffy nose, and sneezing.

Other lesser known side effects of Avandamet include: weakness, rapid heartbeat, severe skin rashes, jaundice, sudden numbness in one side of the body, impaired speech or vision, and drastic weight gain. If you suffer from any of these side effects, you must immediately seek medical attention.

Precautions

You must not use Avandamet if you are allergic to rosiglitazone or metformin. If you have suffered from a heart attack in the past or if you have a history of kidney disease or diabetes, you must inform your doctor about the same before he/she prescribes Avandamet. If you are lined up for an X-ray or a CT scan, you must inform your doctor that you are using Avandamet, as he/she may advise you to stop using the drug for a short period. To prevent Avandamet contamination, you must store the drug at room temperature, away from direct heat and moisture.

Avandamet Dosage

The Avandamet dosage that your doctor prescribes will depend on several factors including how well your body responds to the drug, other diseases you may have, and the type of medications you are currently using. Typically, the recommended dosage for treating initial stages of Type 2 diabetes is 2 mg/500 mg once or twice a day. Your dose will also depend on the amount of rosiglitazone or metformin you were using before. The maximum Avandamet dosage should not exceed 8mg / 2000 mg a day. The drug should be taken exactly as recommended by your doctor. You should not take the medication in larger amounts or smaller amounts than prescribed, nor for longer periods than advised by your doctor. Follow your doctor’s instructions if you intend to buy Avandamet and use it at home.

Interactions

Avandamet has the tendency to interact with other drugs and cause side effects. These drug interactions may reduce the effectiveness of the medication or increase drug levels in your blood. Avandamet may interact with medicines such as gemfibrozil, diuretics, calcium channel blockers, and certain oral contraceptives. It can also potentially interact with certain decongestants and seizure medicines including Carbamazepine and Pseudoephedrine. Clinical studies suggest that Avandamet used in combination with thyroid medications such Levoxyl, Tirosint and Synthroid may lead to some complications. You must inform your doctor about all the medication you are using, including over the counter drugs, prescription medicines, and herbal medicines.
