General Information On Bidil
Bidil is a drug that is used for treating heart failures. It is used as an adjunctive therapy to the standard therapy. The drug helps in a number of ways as follows: for prolonging the time to get hospitalized (due to heart failure); for improving the survival; for improving the functional status reported by the patient. It is a combination drug with two components. One component of the drug called isosorbide dinitrate is a nitrate drug. It acts by dilating the blood vessels. Thus, the heart can easily pump-in more blood and thereby more oxygen. Another component of the drug called Hydralazine also acts by dilating the blood vessels. This helps the heart to pump easily. Thus, brand or generic Bidil acts as a vasodilator by relaxing the smooth muscles.
Side Effects/Precautions For Bidil
Upon administering Isosorbide Dinitrade/Hydralazine HCL if you have allergic reactions then you may need medical attention. These reactions may include swelling of the face, throat, lips or mouth, hives or difficulty in breathing. The dose of the drug is adjusted based on the tolerability of the patient as well as by weighing the side effects and titrated accordingly. The maximum recommended dosage of Bidil drug is 2 tablets to be taken 3 times per day. If the patient shows poor tolerability of the drug then the dose may be reduced to (as low as) ½ tablet, to be taken 3 times per day.
