Bonefos is used to inhibit the formation of calcium. It also hinders the dissolution of calcium crystals. Disodium Clodronate is the main ingredient of Bonefos and is an inhibitor of osteoclast-mediated bone resorption. Bonefos is used to treat hypercalcemia and tumor-induced osteolysis. The generic Bonefos drug blocks the cells which are responsible for re-absorbing bones but it does not affect the bone-strengthening cells. No food should be taken an hour before or after taking the medicine. Further, Bonefos 400mg should not be taken with milk.

However, for patients with moderate renal impairment and renal insufficiency, the dosage of Bonefos should be reduced to 800 mg per day. Patients with known history of hypersensitivity to bisphosphonates may also take reduced doses as prescribed by their care givers.
