General Information On Cipro XR
Cipro XR is an orally consumed antibiotic that is used to treat bacterial infections. It is recommended to treat both complicated and uncomplicated urinary tract infections caused by susceptible strains of certain bacteria. It is also indicated for the treatment of pyelonephritis caused by E. coli. So far, the safety and efficiency of Cipro XR in treating non-urinary tract infections has not been established. The drug acts by inhibiting bacterial proliferation by stopping the reproduction of their genetic material. The drug might also be used for other purposes in consultation with a doctor.
Side Effects / Precautions For Cipro XR
The active ingredient of this medicine is ciproflaxin, which is an artificial antimicrobial substance for oral use. This belongs to a class of drugs called fluoroquinolones. Cipro XR drug should not be used by people who have a history of reaction to ciproflaxin or to any member of the fluoroquinolone family. Do not take the drug if you currently also take tizanidine. Tell your doctor about all the prescription or non-prescription medications you are on so that he can ascertain any adverse drug interactions before prescribing the drug. Your doctor should also know if you have tendon problems, central nervous system disorders, personal or family history of seizures or irregular heartbeats or renal disorders.

The common side effects of the drug include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, severe headache, sleeplessness or dizziness. The rare but serious adverse reactions observed on use of this drug are tremors, increased sensitivity of the skin to sun, extreme mood changes or depression. In case of any of these, please contact your doctor immediately. An extended use of this drug might cause fungal infections of the oral cavity or new vaginal infections.
