General Information on Crinone Gel
Crinone Gel is used as a part of ART in women who cannot get pregnant due to the lack of progesterone in their bodies. ART is Assisted Reproductive Technology, a treatment procedure used for encouraging fertility in women. Its generic name is Progesterone Vaginal, and it belongs to the class of drugs known as hormone replacement drugs. Crinone Gel has to be applied inside the woman’s vagina. The gel works by encouraging the uterus to implant the fertilized egg. It also protects the uterine lining, so that a healthy pregnancy can be induced. Apart from this, a doctor can also ask a patient to buy Crinone Gel if she is not menstruating due to a lack of progesterone in her body.
Side Effects for Crinone Gel
Mild nausea, bloating, diarrhea, dizziness, pain in the rectal or vaginal area, pain during intercourse, loss of libido, breast pain and tenderness, increased urination at night, muscle or joint pain, and vaginal discharge are some of the commonly experienced side effects of Crinone Gel. However, you should be careful if you experience any of the serious side effects of the drug. These include a sudden headache, shortness of breath, problems with balance, speech, or vision, swelling or pain in either legs or one leg, chest pain, swelling of the feet, ankles, or hands, breast lumps, or depression symptoms such as insomnia, mood changes, or weakness.
You should not buy Crinone Gel if you are allergic to the drug. An allergic reaction to it may be identified by hives, difficulty breathing, severe dizziness, or swelling of the face, throat, tongue, or lips.
Precautions
Your doctor will not recommend you to use Crinone Gel if you have uterine or breast cancer, liver disease, abnormal vaginal bleeding, or if you have a history of circulation problems, blood clotting, or stroke. You should also not take this drug if you’ve recently had a tubal pregnancy or an incomplete abortion. Special tests will need to be conducted if you have asthma, kidney or heart disease, high blood pressure, congestive heart failure, migraines, seizure, epilepsy, or diabetes. If you are using Crinone Gel for erratic menstrual periods and do not want to get pregnant, you should use an effective contraceptive method while using the gel. The drug is known to pass into a woman’s breast milk and can harm a nursing baby, so you should not use it if you are breastfeeding a child.
Crinone Gel Dosage
Crinone Gel 8% is usually used for 6-12 days at a stretch. If it is being used as part of a fertility treatment program, your doctor may ask you to use it for 12 weeks into pregnancy so that a healthy pregnancy can be maintained. The gel comes with a sterile applicator which only should be used for applying the gel inside the vagina. This applicator should be used only once and thrown away. A new applicator should be used each time you apply the gel.
Interactions
If you are using any other vaginal medications, you should not take them before and after 6 hours of applying Crinone Gel. Consult your doctor about how to use both the drugs together.
