General Information On Desowen

A mild corticosteroid, Desowen is used for the treatment of certain skin conditions such as dermatitis and eczema. This medicine provides relief from common symptoms associated with the aforementioned conditions of itching, swelling, and redness. The generic name of this drug is Desonide, and it is administered topically.

Side Effects for Desowen

Like other topical medicines, Desonide may too cause some side effects. The number of side effects and their intensity varies from individual to individual. Before you buy Desowen, you should consult your doctor about the potential side effects and how to minimize their occurrence.

Common and less serious side effects of this medicine include: dryness, redness, burning, itching, or irritation. Generally, these side effects appear when you first apply this topical medicine. At worst, these side effects only last for a few days. Consult your doctor if any of the above symptoms show signs of aggravation or continue to occur even after a few days.

Uncommon but serious side effects include: discoloration or thinning of your skin, folliculitis (hair bumps), excessive hair growth, stretch marks, vision problems, mental/mood changes, fatigue, insomnia, or sudden and unexplained gain in weight. You must contact your doctor without any delay if you notice one or more symptoms listed above.

In extremely rare cases, patients who buy Desowen have reported experiencing an allergic reaction. Stop your medication and contact your doctor if you experience shortness of breath, wheezing, difficulty breathing, hives, or swelling of the lips, face, or other body parts.

This medicine may trigger side effects that are not listed above. To know the complete list of side effects, read the patient information leaflet that comes along this medicine.

Precautions

To ensure you can safely take Desonide, it is critical that you inform your doctor about your medical history, especially if you have diabetes. Also, inform your doctor if you are allergic to Desonide, other drugs, or if you suffer from any other type of skin condition.

The safety and efficacy of Desowen in pregnant and breastfeeding women is not established. If you are pregnant or are breastfeeding an infant, then use this drug only if your doctor approves its use.

Do not apply Desowen over a large area of your skin. In addition, do not put a bandage or cover the area on which you have applied this medicine.

Before you start treatment, ask your doctor if you need to avoid any particular types of food or beverages. Also, during the course of Desowen treatment, exercise caution while driving or performing other hazardous activities.

Desowen Dosage

Depending on the severity of your skin condition, your doctor will prescribe the correct dosage for you. Generally, the recommended dosage is Desowen 0.05% 2-3 times per day. You must wash your hands thoroughly before and after using this topical medicine.

Interactions

It is unlikely that other medicines will interact with Desowen. With this said, you need to keep two things in mind during treatment – (1) you should not apply any other topical medicines on the skin area where you have applied Desonide, unless otherwise specified by your doctor, and (2) consult your doctor before using any new medicine, including any herbal or over-the-counter medicines.
