General Information On Diprivan
Diprivan injectable emulsion is an intravenous general anesthetic. This sedative-hypnotic drug is indicated for use of both initiation and/or maintenance of anesthesia for both inpatient and outpatient surgery procedures. It can be used for initiation of anesthesia in adults and for children over 3 years of age. For anesthesia maintenance, it has been approved to be used in adults and children who are at least 2 months old. For adults, the drug is used for the purposes of monitored anesthesia care (MAC) during diagnostic procedures and also in combination with local anesthesia for certain surgeries. It is not recommended for ICU sedation in pediatric patients.
Side Effects / Precautions For Diprivan
The main active ingredient of the drug is propofol. The use of Diprivan is contraindicated in cases where the patient is known to be allergic to propofol or in situations where local or general anesthesia is not advised. The drug has shown to react adversely in people who have an allergy to eggs or soy products. Your doctor should know if you fall in that category.
