General Information On Dovonex
Dovonex is a synthetic form of Vitamin D and is used to treat psoriasis. It acts like natural vitamin D and suppresses the rapid growth of skin cells without causing any hindrance in the usual calcium metabolism. Dovonex 0.005% is available in the form of cream, lotion and ointment. A thin layer of this cream should be applied and rubbed gently on the affected area. It is usually applied twice a day or as directed by the physician. It is advisable not to use generic Dovonex without consulting your doctor.
Side Effects/Precautions for Dovonex
The chemical name of this medicine is Calcipotriene. Some of the common side effects of generic Dovonex are dry, itchy, or peeling skin. Usually, there is nothing to worry if these side effects occur to you. However, if they become intolerable, you should contact your doctor. Other side effects that may occur due to the use of Calcipotriene are skin rashes, skin irritation, inflammation of the skin area where this ointment was applied and swelling of the affected skin area.

Dovonex cream which is available in 60 gm and 120 gm tubes is applied to the affected area of the skin two times a day for the treatment of plaque psoriasis. 0.005% of the cream should be applied as a thin layer on the affected area only. The cream is applied and the area of the skin is rubbed gently. The area of skin affected must be washed before application of the cream. The effectiveness of Dovonex cream is seen in patients who have been treated with the drug for a period of 8 weeks. The cream is meant for topical use only.
