General Information On Ellence

Your doctor will prescribe you to buy Ellence (generic name: Epirubicin Hcl) if you are suffering from breast cancer. Epirubicin Hcl is an anthracycline cytotoxic agent, which works by inhibiting RNA, DNA and proteins and generating free cytotoxic radicals, thus interfering with the growth and spread of cancer cells in the body. This drug is available in the form of vials that need to be given to the patient intravenously.

Side Effects for Ellence

You may produce red colored urine after 1-2 days of receiving the vial. This is a common process and you need not worry after seeing that. Apart from that, you may also experience nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, tiredness, hair loss, changes in menstrual periods, tingly feeling, redness or warmth under the skin, darkening of nails or skin and mild itching or rash. These are mild side effects of the drug and need not to worry about. Some serious but rare side effects of the medicine include weak pulse, uneven or slow heart rate, shortness of breath, weight gain, swelling, severe stinging, burning, pain, skin changes or redness around the needlepoint, severe thirst, hot dry skin or vomiting, fainting, muscle weakness, stopped urination and unusual weakness. Allergic reaction to the drug can be identified by hives, swelling on face, lips, throat or tongue or difficulty breathing. If you experience any of these, you should immediately stop using the medicine and seek medical help.

Precautions

You should tell your doctor beforehand if you have an uncontrolled or untreated infection, severe heart, liver or kidney disease, weak immunity due to previous cancer treatments, congestive heart failure or if you ever had heart attack or stroke. Your doctor will not advise you to buy Ellence if you are allergic to epirubicin, as in Novantrone, Idamycin, Adriamycin or Cerubidine. You should also not take Ellence if you are pregnant or breast-feeding, as it may harm your unborn or newborn baby. In order to prevent dizziness, you should avoid taking alcohol or alcoholic beverages.

Ellence Dosage

Depending upon the patient’s medical condition and age, Ellence 50mg or Ellence 200mg will be given intravenously in repeated cycles of 3-4 weeks. After the first vial, your doctor may decide to adjust the dose as per your response to the treatment. If you are given overdose of the medicine, it can be corrected by intensive care, platelet transfusions and antibiotic therapy.

Interactions

You should not take Ellence if you are already using paclitaxel, docetaxel, cimetidine or calcium channel blockers like amlodipine, nicardipine, varapamil or nisoldipine. Other products that may affect the working of Ellence include azole antifungals like itraconazole, rifamycins like rifampin, macrolide antibiotics like erythromycin and anti-seizure medicines like phenytoin or carbamazepine. You should also avoid taking drugs that cause drowsiness like antihistamines, sleeping pills, anti-anxiety medicines, muscle relaxants, narcotic pain relievers and cough and cold medicines. In addition to these, you should tell your doctor about all the medicinal products you are using at present, including prescription and non-prescription drugs, herbal products, vitamin or mineral supplements and health supplements.
