General Information On Emend
Emend is prescribed for prevention of acute and delayed nausea and vomiting induced by chemotherapy and for the prevention of postoperative nausea and vomiting. It may also be used to treat cyclic vomiting syndrome. It is an antiemetic chemical compound and works by blocking the neurokinin 1 receptor.
Side Effects/Precautions for Emend
Emend (Aprepitant) may produce side effects like weakness, tiredness, dizziness, heartburn, loss of appetite, headache, itching, fever, stomach pain, constipation, hair loss and gas. It may also produce serious side effects like hives and rashes and if you experience any of them, call your doctor at once. Let your doctor know if you are allergic to brand or generic Emend. The drug Emend should be avoided if you are taking Hismanal, Cisapride, Terfenadine and Pimozide. Emend Dosage
Emend is available in 40 mg, 80 mg and 125 mg capsules. When used for preventing chemotherapy induced nausea and vomiting, this drug is given as part of a regimen for a period of three days. The recommended dosage of Emend is 125 mg, taken orally one hour prior to the chemotherapy on Day 1 and followed by 80 mg in the morning daily on Day 2 and Day 3. When used for prevention of post operative nausea and vomiting, the recommended dosage is 40 mg orally, within 3 hours prior to induction of anesthesia. No dosage adjustment is required for patients with renal impairment and mild to moderate hepatic impairment.
