General Information on Enablex
Enablex is an extended-release medicine. It is used for the treatment of an overactive bladder (urgent or frequent urination) and urine leakage (incontinence). Enablex does this by reducing muscle spasm of the urinary tract and the bladder. The recommended starting dosage of generic Enablex is 7.5 mg daily. This may be increased to Enablex 15mg based on your response to the medicine. This tablet should be consumed once daily with some liquid (preferably a full glass of water).
Side Effects / Precautions for Enablex
When using the Enablex drug you may experience side effects like constipation, dry mouth, abdominal pain or indigestion. Since this drug belongs to the category of medicines known as anticholinergics, you may even experience blurred vision and heat prostration (this can occur if Darifenacin is taken in a hot environment). It is advisable to be over cautious while driving or while doing any other dangerous activity if you are taking this drug.
You should avoid taking generic Enablex or Darifenacin if you are allergic to it or any of its ingredients. Other conditions in which Enablex should not be taken are if you have trouble emptying your bladder (known as urinary retention), if you have slow or delayed emptying of stomach (known as gastric retention) or if you have uncontrolled narrow-angle glaucoma (eye problem).
You should consult your doctor before taking the drug if you are pregnant. Enablex, during pregnancy, should only be taken if its benefits outweigh the risks to the foetus. There is no proof of whether Enablex affects breast milk. Therefore, doctors are normally cautious before administrating Enablex to a nursing mother.
Enablex Dosage
The starting dose of Enablex is 7.5 mg administered daily once. The dose of the extended-release tablet is adjusted based on an individual patient’s response. If the dose adjustment is required then it may be increased to a maximum of 15 mg, administered daily once. The dose increment may be done even within 2 weeks after beginning the treatment. In patients with hepatic impairment which is mild to moderate in nature, the maximum dose of Enablex is 7.5 mg and should not be exceeded. Patients with severe hepatic diseases must avoid the drug. The drug should be swallowed completely with any liquid and may be administered with food or without food.
