General Information On Euflexxa
The composition of Euflexxa or sodium hyaluronate is similar to the synovial fluid which surrounds the joints of humans. When Euflexxa is injected in your knee area, it acts as a shock absorber and lubricant, just like the synovial fluid. You may buy Euflexxa if you are suffering from joint pain and you have tried all other methods of relieving the condition. Your doctor will most commonly prescribe this medication to you if you have suffering from arthritis or osteoarthritis.
Side Effects for Euflexxa
Minor pain, redness, bruising or swelling can occur at the injection site, but if these symptoms worsen or persist, contact your doctor immediately. Other side effects of Euflexxa include back pain, fast heartbeat, tingling in the skin, fever and severe headache. Sometimes, you may also notice some allergic reactions like itching or swelling in the face, throat or tongue, breathing difficulty, severe dizziness or rashes. Contact your doctor if you are experiencing a stuffy nose, sore throat, sneezing, stomach pain, nausea, anxiety or stiffness in the area of the injection.
Precautions
You should not take Euflexxa injection if there is an infection in your knee skin or joint. Also, tell your doctor if you are allergic to birds, feathers or eggs. After taking the injection, you should avoid any weight bearing or strenuous activity for at least 48 hours. You should also avoid jogging, playing tennis, lifting weights or climbing stairs. You should also not take this medicine if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Inform your doctor immediately if you become pregnant during the course of the injection.
You should not use skin disinfectants containing ammonium salts in order to prepare the site of injection. Before giving you the injection, your doctor will remove extra fluid from the area. Apart from that, precaution has to be taken while giving the injection, as it should not be injected in an artery or a vein. Otherwise, the side effects may worsen. It is also important to get the injection on schedule, or else the effects of the last injection will be lost.
Euflexxa Dosage
Usually, Euflexxa is directly injected into your knee once a week for 3 weeks. Depending on your condition, the doctor may recommend that you continue using the injection or may give you more than one shot a week. Euflexxa 1ml contains 10mg sodium hyaluronate, 8.5mg sodium chloride, 0.56mg disodium hydrogen phosphate dodecahydrate and 0.05mg sodium dihydrogen phosphate dihydrate. You can buy Euflexxa in 2.25ml disposable syringes containing 2ml of the medicine. Each carton contains 3 disposable syringes, and you have to throw them away after use. The dosage you are provided largely depends on your response to the treatment and your medical condition.
Interactions
Although there are rarely any interactions of Euflexxa with other drugs, you should inform your doctor about all the herbal products, vitamins, over-the-counter medicines and prescription drugs you are taking at present. Most commonly, Euflexxa can interact adversely with Benadryl, Nexium, Restasis, Align, Centrum Silver, Effient, Tylenol and Zoloft. You should inform your doctor beforehand if you are taking any of these medicines.
