General Information On Famvir
Famvir is an antiviral drug specifically prescribed for shingles caused by Herpes zoster. The generic name of the drug is Famciclovir. The drug is also used to treat infections caused by specific types of viruses other than the Herpes virus. The antiviral drug can treat outbreaks of herpes that cause sores around the anus, cold sores around the mouth, and genital herpes. The medication works by slowing down the growth and spread of Herpes and thus helps the body fight off the infection. Famvir cannot completely cure Herpes, but can reduce the symptoms of the infection. The drug can also prove useful in reducing the number of future episodes of outbreaks of genital herpes.
