General Information On Firmagon
Firmagon is a medication used for treating prostate cancer. It is a synthetic form of protein that reduces the level of testosterone in the body. Testosterone is required for a cancerous tumor to grow.
Side Effects for Firmagon
An allergic reaction to Firmagon is rare, but needs to be attended to by a doctor immediately. The side effects of an allergic reaction to Firmagon include difficulty breathing, hives, and swelling of the lips, throat, face and tongue. Other serious side effects may occur while taking Firmagon. These include dizziness, fast or pounding heartbeat, fainting, and pain or burning when urinating. Other side effects include swelling of the hands, ankles, and feet, and shortness of breath even after any mild exertion. High blood pressure is another dangerous effect, which is characterized by anxiety, blurred vision, severe headache, chest pain, and shortness of breath. Inform your doctor in case you experience any of the side effects mentioned above.
Mild side effects may also occur during Firmagon treatment. These side effects include headache, chills or hot flashes, fatigue, joint pain, back pain, and weight gain. Other side effects may include weight gain, constipation, impotence, or loss of interest in sex. There may also be pain, redness, swelling or hard lumps in the area where Firmagon was injected.
Precautions
You must not buy Firmagon if you have an allergy to Degarelix. Inform your doctor beforehand if you have liver disease, kidney disease, heart disease, or heart rhythm disorder. Tell your doctor if you have a family history of Long QT Syndrome, or if you have had a congestive heart failure. You must also talk to your doctor if you have electrolyte imbalance, which is an improper level of elements such as magnesium or potassium in the blood.
Firmagon is not usually prescribed to women because this medication may cause birth defects when a woman is exposed to it during pregnancy. This medication therefore must not be taken by women who are pregnant. Firmagon may or may not pass into breast milk or affect a nursing baby. Do not take this drug if you are breastfeeding a baby.
Firmagon Dosage
Firmagon is administered as an injection under the skin around the stomach. You can not buy Firmagon as an over the counter drug as it is a prescription only medication. It is only to be administered by a doctor, licensed nurse, or any other healthcare professional. The recommended dosage of Firmagon is once every 28 days, but it can also be according to your doctor’s orders. The first dosage of Firmagon would be two injections, following which every other dosage would be one injection.
While a patient is on Firmagon medication, he or she may need to undergo frequent blood tests and visits to the doctor. This would be to make sure that the medication is working and that there are no side effects.
Interactions
There are some medications that Firmagon interacts with. Inform your doctor if you are taking any of these medications. The medications in question include Amiodarone, Bretylium, Flecainide, Dofetilide, Disopyramide, Quinidine, Procainamide, and Morizicine. Other medications which may interact with Frimagon include Ibutilide, Mexiletine, Sotalol, and Propafenone. You must buy Firmagon only after informing your doctor about all the medications that you are taking.
