General Information On Flomax
Flomax or tamsulosin hydrochloride is an oral medicine used by men with an enlarged prostate or benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). This drug belongs to the category of alpha-adrenergic blockers that relax the muscles in the prostate and bladder and relieve the symptoms of BPH, which may include difficulty urinating, weak stream of urine, and the need to pass urine urgently and frequently. Side Effects for Flomax

Precautions

Getting up too fast can make you fall. Drinking alcohol while taking this medicine can worsen some of its side effects. Although Flomax does not have any known effects on an unborn child, it is not recommended to be used by women and children.
Flomax Dosage
You can buy Flomax capsules in 0.4mg and 0.8mg strengths. Flomax 0.4mg capsule is given once a day every day about one hour after eating a meal. Make sure to take the capsule at almost the same time each day. If the patient is not responding well to the 0.4mg capsule, then the dosage can be increased to Flomax 0.8mg once a day. If you discontinue the medicine for several days, then you will have to take the 0.4mg capsules again to restart it.
Interactions
Tell your doctor about all the prescription or over-the-counter medicines you are taking at present. Medicines such as Tagamet, Vaprisol, Gengraf, Sandimmune, Neoral, Gleevec, Tapazole, Isoniazid, Requip, Ticlid, Actos and Coumadin can adversely react with Flomax. Other medicines that may react with Flomax include antibiotics like Biaxin, Synercid, Flagyl, Protostat, Ketek, Lamisil, Erythrocin and EES, anti-depressants like Celexa, Anafranil, Prozac, Luvox, Cymbalta, Norpramin, Lexapro, Paxil, Tofranil, Zoloft and Parnate, anti-fungal medicines like Mycelex Troche, Sporanox, Vfend, Xolegal, Nizoral, Ketozole and Extina and erectile dysfunction medicines like Viagra, Cialis and Levitra. Flomax should also not be taken with anti-malaria medications, heart medicines, blood pressure related medicines, heart rhythm medicines, HIV/AIDS medicines, and psychiatric disorder medicines, as the combination of both can result in serious adverse reactions.
