General Information On Galvus
Galvus is an oral antidiabetic drug and it contains Vildagliptin as its main ingredient. The drug works by increasing the amount of two hormones i.e. glucose-dependent insulinotropic peptide and glucagon-like peptide-1. These hormones are naturally produced by the body and help in controlling the glucose level in the system. Galvus 50mg is used for the treatment of type 2 diabetes. This drug can be used in combination with other drugs such as metformin.
Side Effects/Precautions For Galvus
In some patients, brand or generic Galvus may cause side effects such as tremors, headache and dizziness. Galvus is also associated with low blood sugar level, weight gain and general weakness. The drug may lead to nausea, constipation and swelling of the legs and ankles due to excessive fluid retention. Tiagabine Hydrochloride is also contraindicated for people over 75 years of age. It is contraindicated for people taking ACE inhibitor medicines and people who have had mild or serious heart failure.
You should consult your doctor before taking this medicine if you are pregnant or if you are breast feeding. The drug is not recommended for children under 18 years of age. Galvus may also adversely affect your ability to concentrate or react. Since brand or generic Galvus contains lactose, it is not suitable for people who are lactose intolerant. Galvus Dosage
A starting daily dose of Galvus 100 mg is recommended for management of diabetes type 2. The total dose has to be taken as two divided doses of 50 mg; one in the morning and the other in the evening. It may be prescribed with other diabetes medication and for such patients the recommended dose is usually 50 mg a day. The dose need not be adjusted for individuals with mild renal impairment. However, it is not prescribed for moderate and severe renal impaired individuals. It is also not prescribed for those with liver disease induced hepatic impairment. No dose adjustments are required for elder patients. Glavus is not recommended for children.
