General Information On Glumetza
Glumetza is an anithyperglycemic drug and is used to treat type 2 diabetes. Glumetza is a metformin long released based medicine. The Glumetza drug releases the medication in the stomach. It reduces the risk of intestinal side effects, as the medicine is not released in the intestine. Glumetza works by decreasing the amount of glucose produced by the liver. It also reduces the amount of sugar absorbed by the body. Glumetza 500mg is advised to be taken once daily with an evening meal. It should be swallowed whole.
Side Effects/Precautions For Glumetza
Glumetza should be taken as prescribed by the physician. Metformin should be taken at the same time each day to maintain an even level in the blood. Glumetza is generally a safe drug and its side effects are minimal. However, some patients using brand or generic Glumetza may suffer from diarrhea, gas and nausea. In certain cases, it may also induce vomiting. Its other side effects include abdominal discomfort and headache.

Glumetza Dosage
The recommended starting dose of Glumetza is 1000 mg daily once which should be preferably administered along with the evening meal. The dosage may be increased by 500 mg/week, up to a maximum of 2000 mg once daily. Although significant response is not observed in doses less than 1500 mg, it is recommended to start the therapy with a low dose. Adults who are on insulin-therapy should initiate Glumetza with 500 mg dose/day, while continuing the insulin dose. If the response is not satisfactory then the dose may be increased by 500 mg/week to a maximum of 2000 mg daily dose. If patients are not responding to the therapy even after 4-weeks then gradual introduction of sulfonylurea must be considered, along with the maximum dose of the drug.
