General Information on Hytrin
Doctors advise men suffering from benign prostatic hyperplasia or patients of high blood pressure to buy Hytrin for treating their condition. The main chemical ingredient of Hytrin is Terazosin, which works by itself or in combination with other drugs to treat high blood pressure. Terazosin is classified as an alpha-adrenergic blocking drug. This drug works by relaxing the veins and arteries, enabling blood to pass through them easily. Instead of shrinking the prostate, it relaxes the muscles at the neck of the bladder and prostate, which makes it easy for urine to flow through and empty the bladder. As an added advantage, it also reduces excessive night urination problems.
Hytrin Side Effects
An allergy to Terazosin is the biggest risk of using Hytrin. Any signs of allergic reactions such as hives, breathing difficulties, and swelling of the face, tongue, throat, and lips should be reported to your doctor at once. Some other serious side effects include fast heartbeat, fainting, swelling of the hands and feet, and a painful erection. Less serious reactions include weakness, headache, numbness, stuffy nose, or blurred vision.
Hytrin Precautions
Those allergic to Terazosin should not use this medication. Hytrin can cause dizziness and fainting immediately after you start or stop the medication. Driving and similar activities, which require alertness, should be avoided during those times when the medicine is started or stopped. Also, standing up for a long time, becoming overheated while working out, being out in hot weather, and getting up too fast from a sitting or lying position should be avoided.
Hytrin needs regular dosage adjustments. If you start the medication after a long interval or have continued the same dose for more than two months, get a checkup done. Since Hytrin affects the pupils during cataract surgery, let your eye surgeon know if you are on this medication.
Those with a history of prostate cancer need to inform the doctor before taking this drug. Also, pregnant ladies should have this drug in controlled doses and under the doctor’s supervision only.
Hytrin Dosage
Hytrin should be taken in the exact dosage as prescribed by the doctor and for the exact time that the doctor recommends it. The initial dosage usually starts with Hytrin 1mg at bedtime and is then increased to Hytrin 2mg. Once the desired results begin to show, the dosage is increased to Hytrin 5mg and Hytrin 10mg to ensure that steady improvement ensues. The patients are continually monitored so that the risks of severe hypotension are minimized.
Missed doses should be taken as soon as remembered unless it is time for the next dose. Never take extra medicine to make up for missed doses, as it can be fatal.
Interactions
There are a number of medications which interact with Hytrin. Sildenafil medications such as Viagra and Revatio interact with the medicine. Tadalafil, Vardenafil, Verapamil, and diuretics also interact severely with Hytrin. Antihistamines, muscle relaxants and pain relievers should also be used only after you consult your doctor. Before starting any new medication while using Hytrin, be sure to consult your doctor as you may suffer from severe reactions due to medicine interactions.
Terazosin is a prescription-only drug, and you should not buy Hytrin unless your doctor has prescribed it.
