General Information On Ikorel

Ikorel or Nicorandil is an oral medicine used for treating chronic angina pectoris or chest pain. Angina pain is caused when too little oxygen reaches the heart, leading to an increase in its workload and less supply of blood to the heart. Ikorel increases the supply of potassium from the muscle cells, thus widening the arteries and reducing the workload needed by the heart to pump blood.

Ikorel has nitrate properties that relax the smooth muscles of blood vessels, especially in the veins. If you buy Ikorel on your doctor recommendation and use it regularly, your heart will be able to work in an easier manner, thus preventing the frequency of angina attacks. Apart from this, the drug also reduces risks of other coronary heart disease like heart attacks and heart failure.

Side Effects for Ikorel

You may often experience headache during the first few days of taking the medicine, but it usually disappears within a few days as your body gets used to it. Apart from that, dizziness, weakness, flushing, nausea, vomiting and rectal bleeding are other common side effects associated with Ikorel. If you are experiencing abnormal liver function, pain in the muscles, rash and mouth ulcers, then you may need to contact your doctor and tell him/her about the situation. You should immediately stop taking Ikorel if your tongue and lips swell and you are noticing bleeding from your rectum or anus.

Precautions

Patients who have depleted volumes of blood, low systolic blood pressure, acute myocardial infaraction or acute pulmonary oedema with low filling pressures and acute left ventricular failure should not take Ikorel. Ikorel may lower your blood pressure and therefore, it should be taken with caution if you are also taking other anti-anginal agents. After taking Ikorel, you should not drive a vehicle or do any activity that requires alertness, as the medicine may make you dizzy. You should also not drink alcohol while taking the medicine, as it may worsen your side effect of dizziness and drowsiness.

Ikorel Dosage

You can buy Ikorel in 5mg, 10mg and 20mg tablet forms. Initially, you may be given Ikorel 10mg tablet once a day, but if you are susceptible to headaches, the dose will be divided into one Ikorel 5mg tablet twice a day. Depending on your response to the medicine and your individual medical condition, the dosage will be increased to Ikorel 20mg tablet once a day. Ikorel can be taken in the morning and evening with or without food, and try to take it at almost the same time each day. When you need to stop the medicine, you will need to decrease the dosage slowly, instead of stopping it immediately.

Interactions

If you are taking any erectile dysfunction medicines like Viagra, Cialis or Levitra, then you will not be asked to take Ikorel as a combination of these medicines can cause a serious drop in your blood pressure. While taking Ikorel, you should also not take other medicines used for widening blood vessels, medicines used for treating high blood pressure, and medicines used for decreasing blood pressure like sedatives and anti-depressants. This may lead to the worsening of dizziness and lightheadedness. There may be an increased risk of bleeding and ulceration in your intestines or stomach if you take Ikorel with corticosteroids like prednisolone.
