General Information On Immucyst
Immucyst or Bacillus Calmette-Guerin or BCG is an instillation used for treating certain types of cancers inside the surface of the patient’s urinary bladder. Under medical supervision, Immucyst is added in a solution and instilled into your bladder with the help of a tube or catheter. When it enters into your bladder, it causes immune reaction inside, causing your body’s own cells to destroy the cancer cells. You can buy Immucyst for treating primary, multi-focal, high grade and relapsed superficial transitional cell bladder carcinoma and also for reducing the frequency of recurrence of the tumors, especially after transurethral resection.
Side Effects for Immucyst
Some of the side effects that you may encounter include pain and burning while passing urine, fever, tiredness, chills, flu-like symptoms and cough. You should contact your doctor if any of these side effects stay longer than 48 hours after taking the drug. If you are receiving blood in your urine or you are noticing joint pain, irritation, redness and pain in eyes, skin rash, cough, nausea, diarrhea, loss of appetite, genital pain or swelling in the male sex organs, then you should immediately contact your doctor and tell him/her about your symptoms in detail.
Some serious side effects of Immucyst may include swelling of lips, face, throat or mouth, which may result in difficulty in breathing and swallowing. If you are fainting or having hives, or if your eyes or skin have become yellow, you should immediately seek emergency care.
Precautions
If you need to have a surgery that needs anesthesia while you are on Immucyst, you need to tell your surgeon about it. If you are pregnant or you become pregnant, then also you should tell your doctor immediately so that he can prescribe another drug, instead of Immucyst.
After getting Immucyst treatment, you should go to the bathroom in a seated position, at least for the next 6 hours. The reason for this is because the drug is made from bacteria and you want to avoid splashing urine which may cause infection in someone else that uses the toilet. Urine that you pass within 6 hours of getting the treatment should be disinfected with bleach. To do this, add equal amount of bleach in the urine and let it stand in the toilet bowl for 15 minutes, and then, flush.
Immucyst Dosage
You can buy Immucyst in two strengths and forms, Immucyst 27mg injection and Immucyst 81mg vial vaccine. Immucyst is added in a solution and instilled into the patient’s bladder with a catheter. Before this is done, you are asked to completely empty your bladder. The solution with the Immucyst needs to be held in the bladder for at least 2 hours, during which, your doctor will ask you to change your position after every 15 minutes. After that, you will be asked to empty your bladder in sitting position for the next 6 hours. You will be given a lot of fluids so that you urinate frequently and your bladder gets free of the solution. The treatment is given once a week for the first 6 weeks, with extra instillations in the 8th and 12th weeks. After that, you will be given the treatment once a month for one year. The dose you are given and your treatment schedule depends upon your personal needs, your body weight, your medical condition and other drugs you are taking along with Immucyst.
Interactions
Some of the drugs that may interfere with the working of Immucyst include drugs which weaken your immunity, antibiotics and drugs for treating tuberculosis. Tell your doctor about all the prescription drugs and over-the-counter drugs you are taking at present.
