General Information On Indocin SR
Indocin SR is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug used to treat pain and/or inflammation caused by conditions such as tendinitis, rheumatoid arthritis, bursitis, gouty arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, and osteoarthritis. This medicine works by blocking the enzyme (cyclooxygenase) responsible for the formation of prostaglandin, a hormone that causes inflammation and pain.
Side Effects for Indocin SR
Like other medicines, Indomethacin (generic name of this medicine) may also cause various side effects. Common and less serious side effects of this drug are: headache, drowsiness, mild dizziness, upset stomach, bloating, constipation, gas, diarrhea, mild heartburn, itching, rashes, or a ringing sensation in ears. If you notice any of these symptoms getting worse, consult your doctor or pharmacist.
In some cases, this drug may also cause serious side effects. Seek immediate medical help if you experience any of the following symptoms: shortness of breath, chest pain, fever, severe or persistent headache, sore throat, swelling of the feet or hands, and sudden weight gain.
In rare cases, Indocin SR may trigger a serious liver disease. Watch out for the following symptoms and seek immediate medical help if you experience: severe abdominal pain, dark-colored urine, black or tarry stools, severe or persistent nausea, severe or persistent vomiting, severe or persistent fatigue, loss of hunger, or yellow eyes or skin.
Serious allergic reactions to this drug are highly unlikely, but include breathing problems, dizziness, skin rashes or swelling/itching. If you experience any of the following symptoms, then stop your medication immediately and seek emergency medical help.
Precautions
Do not use this drug if you are allergic to this medicine or other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (e.g. Celecoxib, Ibuprofen, Naproxen etc.). Patients who have just undergone a heart bypass surgery or are going to have one in the near future should not buy Indocin SR.
This drug may cause bleeding in the stomach. Avoid alcohol and stop smoking while you are on this medicine, as both alcohol and nicotine increase the risk of stomach bleeding. Extra care should be taken while giving this drug to the elderly, as they are more susceptible to stomach bleeding.
Pregnant women should use this drug only if directed by their doctor. This drug passes into breast milk and so, it should be avoided by nursing mothers.
Indocin SR Dosage
You should take Indocin SR as prescribed by your doctor. If you are required to take this medicine for a long time, then your doctor may ask you to undergo regular tests to determine if the drug is causing any harmful side effects. You should store this medicine at room temperature and away from moisture and light.
Indocin SR Interactions
Indomethacin may interact with certain medications, such as blood-thinning drugs (e.g. Coumadin), probenecid, diuretics (e.g. Lasix), other NSAIDs (e.g. Lodine, Aleve, Feldene, Relafen, Mobic, Ansaid, Advil, Voltaren, Orudis, Toradol, Ponstel, Naprosyn), methotrexate (e.g. Trexall), beta-blockers (e.g. Betapace, Bolcaden, Corgard, Inderal, Normodyne, Zebeta, Tenormin, Lopressor), digoxin (e.g. Lanoxin), or lithium (e.g. Lithobid). Other drugs that are not listed above may also interact with this medicine. This is why you must inform your doctor about all the medications you are taking before you buy Indocin SR.
