General Information On Invanz

Invanz is an antibiotic that is used for the treatment of mild to severe infection caused by common gram-positive and gram-negative aerobic and anaerobic bacteria. The infections may be community-acquired pneumonia caused by Streptococcus pneumoniae (penicillin-susceptible isolates only), intra-abdominal, skin, urinary tract, kidney and post-surgical gynaecological infections. Invanz blocks the formation of bacterial cell walls which leads to the death of those cells. It comes in the form of an injection which has to be taken once daily. Children who are 13 years and older can take 1 gm of this dosage daily. Invanz 15mg/kg can be given for children in the age group of 3 months to 12 years (to be taken twice daily).

Side Effects / Precautions for Invanz

Side effects of generic Invanz could include diarrhea, nausea, headache, infused vein complications, vomiting, phlebitis/thrombophlebitis and vaginitis in women. Other side effects of generic Invanz are seizures and some adverse central nervous system problems.

Similar to any other antibiotic, the prolonged use of Ertapenem can also cause an overgrowth of non-susceptible organisms. Therefore, it is very important that you consult your doctor regularly if you are on generic Invanz medication. This medication is not recommended for children less than 3 months old. It is also not recommended for the treatment of meningitis. It is not advisable to co-infuse or mix the Invanz drug with any other medications.
