General Information On Invirase

Invirase is an HIV medication. The generic name of this medicine is saquinavir mesylate and it belongs to a group of drugs called protease inhibitors. Saquinavir mesylate is an inhibitor of the human immunodeficiency virus type 1. That is, it prevents the multiplication of the HIV virus in the human body. While Invirase can control the multiplication of the HIV virus, it cannot prevent its transmission from one person to another through sexual contact or blood contamination. Your doctor might advice you to buy Invirase in order to control the spread of the HIV virus—the primary cause of Acquired Immuno Deficiency Syndrome, or AIDS—within your body. However, Invirase is not a cure for AIDS or HIV.

Side Effects for Invirase

Invirase is a prescription drug that must only be used under a doctor’s supervision. It is a potent protease inhibitor and is known to cause mild to moderate side effects, ranging from endocrine disorders to various dermatological problems. Some common side effects of this drug are mild nausea, stomach upset, and mood changes. In most cases, these side effects subside on their own. If you observe any of the following symptoms such as high fever, sore throat, severe headache, peeling or redness of skin, rashes, increased urination/excessive thirst, or abnormal bleeding, discontinue the medication and consult your doctor immediately. In some cases, a severe allergic reaction (hives, swelling of the face, lips, tongue or throat, and breathlessness) may occur after taking Invirase.

Precautions

Invirase is not recommended for children below the age of 16 years. In addition to saquinavir mesylate, the drug also contains certain inactive ingredients that may trigger an allergic reaction. Therefore, it is advisable to inform your doctor about all allergies that you have. Users have reported changes in lipid profile and clotting mechanism while taking this medication. Therefore, if you have a history of blood disorders like Hemophilia, high cholesterol, diabetes or liver problems, you must exercise caution while taking Invirase. Overdose can result in irregular heartbeat or severe dizziness. So, ensure that you take the medicine as prescribed. You can buy Invirase for use during pregnancy, as it is not expected to harm an unborn baby. However, proper medication and treatment for HIV is absolutely essential during pregnancy, as HIV can pass from the mother to her unborn baby.

Invirase Dosage

Saquinavir mesylate is available in two strengths – Invirase 200 mg hard gelatin capsules and Invirase 500 mg biconvex film-coated tablets. Dosage can vary, depending on your condition and other medications that you are taking. The usual dosage for treating HIV or AIDS in adults is Invirase 1000 mg twice daily. Saquinavir is usually administered with 100 mg of Ritonavir, which boosts its effectiveness. Ideally, Invirase should be taken daily at the same time with plain water. For best results, it is important to take the complete course of Invirase as advised by your doctor.

Interactions

Invirase is known to interact with a number of drugs. Some examples are Amiodarone, Flecainide, Propafenone, Rifampin, Cisapride, Pimozide, or an ergot medicine such as Ergomat or Migranal. Invirase is also known to interact adversely with certain antibiotics, antifungal medications and blood thinning medicines. Concomitant usage with other medications might reduce the efficacy of Invirase and/or cause serious allergic or fatal reactions. Tell your doctor about all the medications or supplements that you use before starting Invirase.
