General Information on Iopidine eyedrops
Due to surgery or other procedures, there is some fluid retention under the eyelids, which puts pressure on the eyes and damages the optic nerves. In such a condition, patients are advised to buy Iopidine eyedrops to reduce the fluid and relieve pressure from the eye. It is a short term therapy which makes use of the active ingredient Apraclonidine Ophthalmic to treat fluid accumulation in the eye.
Iopidine Side Effects
The serious side effects of this medication are allergic reactions to Apraclonidine Ophthalmic. You should seek immediate medical attention if you notice symptoms like breathing difficulty, closing up of the throat, swelling of the lips, tongue or face, hive outbreak, irregular heart rate, or slow heartbeat. Other side effects may also be noticed, but these are usually not so serious. Burning sensation in the eyes, itching, blurry vision, watering of the eyes, redness of the eyes, swollen eyes, nausea, diarrhea, headache, dizziness, dry nose, or dry mouth are indications of reactions to the medication. If these symptoms manifest, talk to your doctor, but don’t stop the medicine unless your doctor tells you to.
There may be a few gastrointestinal side effects such as abdominal pain, vomiting and an upset stomach. If the symptoms persist, you should let the doctor know. Even the central nervous system may be affected by regular use of Iopidine eyedrops and these include insomnia, irritable mood syndrome and a decreased sex drive. Precautions
Let your doctor know if you are allergic to Apraclonidine Ophthalmic or Clonidine so that serious allergic reactions do not arise from the administration of this medicine. Your doctor should also be informed about your entire medical history in case you have suffered from Raynnaud’s disease, cerebrovascular disease, high blood pressure, heart stroke, kidney disorder, mental disorder, or a vasovagal attack.
Once this medicine is applied, the patient’s vision becomes temporarily blurry and they experience dizziness for some time. During this time, it is not safe to drive or be involved in some particular physical activities without supervision.
Pregnant women should use this medicine only if absolutely necessary.
Dosage
Iopidine 0.5% should be used only in the eyes. It is usually applied thrice every day or as the doctor recommends. The eye drops should be put in the eye after sterilizing your hands and then using a dropper to put the solution in. The dropper should not touch the eye, or it may cause contamination. Blinking or rubbing the eye may cause the eye drop to roll out.
For those undergoing laser eye treatments, this drop is usually administered an hour before the surgery starts. In case you are using some other eye drop, wait for a minimum of five minutes between using the two medicines.
Interactions
Avoid using MAO inhibitors during the time you are on Iopidine eyedrops. The two weeks before you use the medication and the two weeks following the treatment period is also when all MAO inhibitors should not be used.
Any medicine that causes drowsiness may interact with this drug, and you should seek the doctor’s advice before using the same.
