General Information On Isopto Carbachol
Isopto Carbachol is used to treat glaucoma and other eye conditions such as ocular hypertension. It works by reducing the quantity of fluid within the eye. A reduction in eye fluid helps in lowering high pressure in the eye. As the high pressure in the eye reduces, so does the patient’s chances of developing vision loss, blindness, and damage to ocular nerve cells.
Your doctor may prescribe Isopto Carbachol as a standalone medication or ask you to take it with other medicines for the treatment of the conditions listed above.
Side Effects for Isopto Carbachol
Isopto Carbachol may cause some unwanted side effects. In most cases, the side effects of Carbachol Ophthalmic are mild and stop occurring once your body gets used to the drug. The side effects that you may experience when you first start treatment are: mild headache, burning or stinging sensation in the eyes, decreased vision in dim light, sweating, more than normal urination, mild nausea/vomiting/diarrhea/dizziness, or excessive drooling. It is necessary to iterate that it is highly unlikely that you will experience all the symptoms listed above. You should contact your doctor if any of the aforementioned side effects become a cause for concern.
In rare cases, Isopto Carbachol is known to cause retinal detachment, which, in turn, may cause muscae volitantes (tiny spots that occasionally appear in your field of vision), blind spot, and, in extremely rare cases, blindness. You must consult your doctor immediately if you experience an increase in muscae volitantes (also known as eye floaters) or loss of vision.
The above list is only a partial list of side effects and it is possible that you may experience side effects that are not listed above during the course of the treatment. It is recommended that you read the patient information leaflet you receive when you buy Isopto Carbachol. This leaflet outlines all the side effects of the medicine and offers other useful information.
Precautions
The presence of certain pre-existing conditions such as retinal tear and nearsightedness may increase your risk of developing retinal detachment when using Isopto Carbachol. Before you start treatment, inform your doctor if you have any of the above two conditions or if you have ever had a cataract surgery.
Also let your doctor know about your complete medical history and pre-existing conditions, especially if you have: hypertension, hypotension, heart failure, heart attack, stomach ulcers, epilepsy, asthma, an overactive thyroid, Parkinson’s disease, or urinary tract problems.
If you are pregnant, you should use this medicine only if it is approved by your doctor. Similarly, breastfeeding mothers should use Carbachol Ophthalmic only if directed to do so by their doctor.
When using this medicine, care should be taken to not touch the dropper to any surface, as it can lead to an eye infection. Patients who experience poor vision as a side effect of this drug should not drive, operate heavy machinery, or perform other hazardous activities during the course of treatment.
Isopto Carbachol Dosage
Your doctor will determine the right dose for you. You must ensure that you take the drug only as directed by your doctor.
Interactions
Other eye medications and certain drugs such as NSAID drugs may interact with Carbachol Ophthalmic, so before you buy Isopto Carbachol, inform your doctor about all the medicines—this includes prescription-based, over-the-counter, and herbal medicines—that you may be using.
