General Information on Isopto Homatropine

An anticholinergic, Isopto Homatropine is used before and after certain eye surgeries. Your doctor may prescribe this medicine for the treatment of certain eye conditions (such as uveitis) or before conducting an eye examination (such as refraction). This medicine works by relaxing the muscles of your eye. This, in turn, widens your pupil.

Side Effects of Isopto Homatropine

Possible side effects of this medicine include: blurred vision, burning or stinging sensation in the eyes, swelling of the eyelids, or increased sensitivity to light. The aforementioned symptoms are common and less severe side effects of this medicine. Do not stop the medication if you notice any of these symptoms. However, if you notice that the side effects are getting worse, you should immediately contact your doctor. As this medicine may cause blurred vision, you should exercise caution while driving or operating heavy machinery during treatment.

In rare cases, this medicine may trigger a serious side effect. Common symptoms of an allergic reaction include: breathing difficulty, swelling of the face, lips, or tongue, itching, hallucinations (in children), and distended stomach (in infants). If you notice any of the following symptoms, stop using the medicine and immediately consult your doctor.

The effect of this medicine on an unborn baby is not known. If you are pregnant, do not buy Isopto Homatropine without first consulting your doctor. If this medicine is being given to a child or infant, then exercise extra caution, as children/infants are more susceptible to the side effects of this medicine. This medicine should be stored at room temperature and kept away from moisture and heat.
