General Information on Ixempra
Ixempra or Ixabepilone is a prescription medication used to treat locally advanced and metastatic breast cancer. It is a microtubule inhibitor belonging to the group of drugs called antineoplastic agents. Your doctor may recommend you to buy Ixempra after other cancer medications and therapies have been unsuccessful. The drug controls the growth of tumors or neoplasm by preventing cell division and blocking blood supply to the cancerous cells. Ixempra can be used as monotherapy or in combination with Capecitabine for patients whose tumors are resistant to other cancer medications.
Side Effects for Ixempra
Ixabepilone is a cancer medication that destroys fast-growing cancer cells in the body. However, it can also sometimes destroy the healthy cells in the body and lead to some adverse side effects. Ixempra can cause numbness, tingling, severe body ache, sores in the throat and mouth, paleness of the skin, and breathlessness. Users have also reported unusual bleeding, easy bruising, rapid heart rate, and chest pain. While most side effects can be controlled by following a proper dosage schedule, consult your health practitioner immediately if the symptoms worsen or cause excessive discomfort. Do not alter the dosage or discontinue taking the medicine without consulting your doctor.
Precautions
You should not buy Ixempra if you are allergic to Ixabepilone or Cremophor. The medication can lower white blood cell count in your body, so women suffering from neutropenia (low white blood cells) should avoid using this medication. Inform your health practitioner if you have a history of heart problems, liver disease, or nerve problems. Ixempra is not safe for use during pregnancy or lactation as it can harm the child. The drug can cause numbness and dizziness, which is why activities such as driving, use of machinery, etc. should be avoided while using this medication. You must also avoid grapefruit or its juice while taking Ixempra, as it can amplify the side effects of this drug.
Ixempra Dosage
Ixempra is administered intravenously. The medicine needs to be given slowly, and the infusion can take up to 3 hours. The usual dosage for breast cancer treatment is Ixempra 40 mg/m2, to be given intravenously every 3 weeks. The dosage will vary according to your age, medical history, and body surface area. The dosage for a body surface area greater than 2.2 m2 should be increased accordingly. It is available as Ixempra 15 mg kit (with a vial providing 8 ml of diluent) and Ixempra 45 mg kit (with a vial providing 23.5 ml of the diluent). Around an hour before the infusion, your doctor might give you some medications to control the side effects of Ixabepilone. During the course of treatment, you will be evaluated through clinical observation and periodic blood tests.
Interactions
Rifampin or Rifabutin can decrease the amount of Ixempra in your blood, thereby reducing its efficacy. Concomitant use of this medication with antidepressants such as Nefazodone can lead to serious clinical problems. Antidepressants can increase the amount of Ixabepilone in your blood and lead to severe side effects and health problems. Antibiotics such as Quinupristin and antifungal medications like Clomitrazole can also react with this drug and cause discomfort. Alcohol can increase dizziness and numbness caused by Ixempra. Therefore, alcohol intake should be limited while using this drug.
