General Information On Maxalt
Maxalt is an oral drug used to treat migraine headaches. This medicine provides relief from debilitating migraines. It also alleviates nausea, vomiting, and increased sensitivity to sound or light – all of which are underlying symptoms of a migraine. The generic name of this drug is Rizatriptan and it belongs to a class of drugs referred to as triptans.
Migraine patients should not use Maxalt as a preventive medicine since it neither prevents the occurrence of future migraine headaches, nor does it reduce their frequency. Like other drugs of its class, triptans, this drug works by reducing the size of dilated blood vessels around the brain. Take this medicine as soon as you notice symptoms of a migraine attack, unless otherwise directed by your doctor.
Side Effects for Maxalt
Some people may experience side effects during the course of treatment. You must tell your doctor if you experience any allergic reactions (wheezing, breathing troubles, hives, or swelling of your tongue, lips, face, or other body parts) after using Maxalt.
Inform your doctor if this medicine causes any of the following serious side effects: numbness on one side of your body, severe headache, tightness or pain in your throat/neck/jaw, mental/mood changes (such as confusion, hallucination, irritation), severe stomach ache, bloody diarrhea, severe and persistent nausea, fainting, vomiting, tingling, or numbness in your toes or fingers, or blue toes or fingers.
Continue to use Maxalt as directed by your doctor if you notice the following mild symptoms: dry mouth, dizziness, nausea, drowsiness, or mild tingling sensation/redness under your skin. These symptoms are relatively likely to occur at the start of the treatment and should subside once your body gets used to Rizatriptan. Consult your doctor if the aforementioned symptoms last for a long time or exacerbate.
Precautions
Migraine patients who are allergic to Rizatriptan or have chest pain, coronary heart disease, ischemic bowel disease, a history of cardiovascular disease, or a headache that is not migraine should not buy Maxalt. Before using this drug, make sure you tell your doctor your medical history, especially if you have severe kidney or liver disease, hypertension, cardiovascular disease, or heart rhythm disorder.
The safety and effectiveness of Rizatriptan in people younger than 18 years, pregnant women, and breastfeeding women have not been established. If you fall in any of these three categories, then consult your doctor before using this medicine.
Do not take any other migraine medications such as Eletriptan, Frovatriptan, or Sumatriptan for at least 24 hours before or after taking Rizatriptan.
Maxalt Dosage
The recommended dose is Maxalt 5mg or Maxalt 10 mg. You must maintain a gap of 2 hours between two doses of Rizatriptan. Your doctor will advise you about what strength of Maxalt you should take at the onset of a migraine attack and will also share some other essential instructions with you. You must ensure that you take this drug exactly as directed by your doctor and follow all his/her instructions.
Interactions
Certain medicines, when taken along with Maxalt, may decrease its effectiveness or cause serious side effects. So, before you buy Maxalt, tell your doctor all the medications that you are using, including over-the-counter and herbal medicines.
