General Information On Maxipime
An injectable antibiotic, Maxipime is used in the treatment of several types of serious bacterial infections, such as bronchitis, pneumonia, biliary tract infection, septicaemia, and urinary tract infections. This medicine may also be used to treat conditions that are not listed above.
The generic name of this drug is Cefepime and it works by killing the infection-causing bacteria. It belongs to a class of drugs referred to as cephalosporins. You should not use this medicine to treat viral or yeast infections.
Side Effects for Maxipime
Maxipime may cause certain unwanted side effects in some people. While most of the side effects of this medicine are mild, some can be serious and may require immediate medical attention.
Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you notice any of the following serious side effects after taking a Cefepime injection – severe headache, fever, loss of appetite, painful urination, less than normal or no urination, weakness, nausea, vomiting, fluid retention, mental/mood changes (such as confusion, nervousness, insomnia, anxiety), severe or bloody diarrhea, or mouth ulcers. Seek immediate medical help if you experience any potentially fatal allergic reactions (fast heartbeat, fever, chills, coughing, wheezing, trouble breathing, and swelling of your lips, tongue, or face) after taking this drug.
Common and less serious side effects of this medication are – mild headache, swelling or pain at the injection site, oral or vaginal thrush, vomiting, mild diarrhea, or constipation. Consult your doctor or pharmacist if any of these side effects persist for a long time or cause serious discomfort.

Precautions
To ensure that this drug is safe for you, tell your doctor if you: (1) are allergic to Cefepime or any other cephalosporin, (2) have a severe liver or kidney disease, (3) recently had a bone marrow transplant, (3) suffer from hypotension (low blood pressure), or (4) have severe bowel disease.
Pregnant or breastfeeding women should not use this drug without their doctor’s consent. This medicine is given through an IV infusion. Do not self-inject Maxipime in case you are unsure about the procedure.

Maxipime Dosage
This medicine is available in Maxipime 500mg, Maxipime 1g, and Maxipime 2g strengths. Depending on the condition that is being treated, your doctor will prescribe the right initial dose. It is absolutely critical that you take your medication exactly as directed by your doctor.
Interactions
Certain medicines may increase some side effects of Cefepime and/or reduce its effectiveness. Drugs that may interact with Maxipime include diuretic pills (such as ethacrynic acid, torsemide, bumetanide, or furosemide) and certain antibiotics (such as gentamicin, streptomycin, amikacin, neomycin, kanamycin, or netilmicin). This is not a complete list of medicines that may interact with Cefepime. To ensure there are no unwanted drug interactions, inform your doctor about all the medicines that you are taking, including herbal and non-prescription medicines.
