General Information On Maxitrol Eye Suspension

An anti-infective steroid combination, Maxitrol Eye Suspension is administered topically to treat bacterial eye infections. This medicine contains three main ingredients: Neomycin, Polymyxin B, and Dexamethasone. The first two ingredients, Neomycin and Polymyxin B, are antibiotics. Dexamethasone, which is the third constituent, is a steroid. The generic name of this drug is Neomycin, Polymyxin B, and Dexamethasone Ophthalmic. Each ml of this medication contains: Polymyxin B Sulphate – 6,000 units, Neomycin Sulphate – 3,500 units, and Dexamethasone – 1mg. This drug can also be used to treat medical conditions that are not listed above.

Side Effects for Maxitrol Eye Suspension

You may experience some side effects during your treatment. With that said, it is essential to iterate here that Neomycin, Polymyxin B, and Dexamethasone Ophthalmic rarely, if ever, cause a serious side effect. Common but mild side effects of this topical medicine include mild irritation, burning, itching, redness, or a stinging sensation in the eye. In addition to the above, some patients may experience increased sensitivity to light, eyelid swelling, or blurred vision. Generally, these symptoms occur only during the start of Maxitrol Eye Suspension treatment and dissipate on their own within a few days. Talk to your doctor if any of the aforementioned symptoms exacerbate or persist for a long time.

This medicine is not expected to cause an allergic reaction. In case you show any symptoms of an allergic reaction (trouble breathing, wheezing or coughing, swelling of your face or other body parts, or hives) then you must seek immediate medical attention.

Precautions

Interactions

Do not use any other ophthalmic medications along with Neomycin, Polymyxin B, and Dexamethasone Ophthalmic without your doctor’s permission. Also, inform your doctor about all the medicines that you are currently taking, especially if you are using an oral steroid drug.
