General Information On Mepron
Mepron is used in the treatment, as well as prevention of Pneumocystis jiroveci pneumonia (earlier referred as Pneumocystis carinii pneumonia, or PCP). This medicine stops the reproduction process of the germ that causes this infection. Mepron is classified as an antiparasitic and its generic name is Atovaquone.
Side Effects for Mepron
This drug, like other medicines, may trigger certain side effects in some people. Before you start using Atovaquone, ask your doctor – (1) what side effects to expect, (2) what you should do in case the medicine causes serious side effects or triggers an allergic reaction, and (3) how you can minimize the risk of negative effects.
Patients who buy Mepron, most commonly, experience the following mild side effects: diarrhea, mild abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, or constipation, fatigue, dizziness, headache, mild insomnia, or muscle pain. Usually, the aforementioned symptoms occur at the start of treatement, when the patient’s body is still getting used to the medicine. Generally, after a few days—when your body gets used to Mepron—these symptoms start to subside, before stopping altogether.
Some patients who buy Mepron may experience the following uncommon but serious side effects: severe headache or nausea, fever, worsening cough, sore throat, loss of appetite, severe and persistent fatigue, easy bruising/bleeding, yellowing of the eyes/skin, dark-colored urine, or black stools.
A severe allergic reaction to Atovaquone is not expected. Having said that, you must seek medical help immediately if you notice any symptoms of allergic reaction, which are – wheezing, trouble breathing, itching, rashes, hives, or swelling of your body parts.
Precautions
To ensure Mepron is safe for you, tell your doctor (1) what medicines you are allergic to, (2) what medications you are currently taking, and (3) your medical history, especially if you have a severe liver disease or intestinal disorder. In addition to the above, tell your doctor if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant, or nursing a baby. The efficacy and safety of Atovaquone in pregnant and breastfeeding women has not been established. If you are pregnant or nursing, use this drug only after your doctor approves it.
This is not a complete list of precautions. To know all the precautions and other valuable information, read the patient information leaflet that you receive with the purchase of this drug.
