General Information on Merrem
A carbapenem-type antibiotic, Merrem is used to treat various bacterial infections such as bacterial meningitis, appendicitis, and peritonitis. The generic name of this drug is Meropenem, and like other drugs of its class, it stops the growth of infection-causing bacteria.
The drug is administered via an intravenous injection. As Merrem is a prescription drug, you need a doctor’s prescription to buy Merrem. The drug contains the following two ingredients: Meropenem and Sodium Carbonate. It is available in 2 strengths: Merrem 1g vial and Merrem 500mg vial.
Side Effects for Merrem
Some patients who buy Merrem have reported experiencing certain side effects. In most cases, the side effects were mild and temporary. Possible side effects of this drug include the following: mild swelling or soreness at the injection site, headache, vomitting, nausea, diarrhea, and constipation.
In rare cases, Merrem may trigger serious side effects. Seek medical help immediately if you experience any of the following: allergic reactions (shortness of breath, wheezing, difficulty breathing, chest tightness, hives, skin rashes, itching, or swelling of the face, throat, tongue, or lips), seizures, unusual bruising or bleeding, or watery diarrhea.
This is not a complete list of side effects for Merrem. To know all the possible side effects of this treatment, read the patient information leaflet that you receive with the drug’s purchase.
Precautions
You should not take Merrem if you are allergic to any ingredient present in its formulation. In addition, avoid this drug if you are hypersensitive to any of the following: Imipenem, a cephalosporin antibiotic, or a penicillin antibiotic.
To help your doctor determine if Merrem is a safe option for you, inform him/her about your medical history, especially if you have or ever had any of the following: seizure disorder, kidney disease, liver disease, brain tumor, or head injury.
If you are pregnant, use the drug only if recommended by your doctor. The effect of this drug on nursing children is not known. If you are breastfeeding, inform your doctor before using Merrem.
Your doctor may ask you to undergo certain tests during treatment to monitor the efficacy of the drug and/or to detect early signs of a potential serious side effect. This is why it is imperative that you do not miss any of your scheduled appointments.
Merrem Dosage
Depending on your condition, your doctor will prescribe the correct dosage for you. The recommended dosage for the treatment of skin infections is Merrem 500 mg after every 8 hours. For infections of the abdomen, the recommended dosage is Merrem 1mg after every 8 hours. The drug is given via an intravenous injection over a period of 15-30 minutes.
For best results, it is critical that you take the dosage as prescribed by your doctor. You should not increase or decrease the dosage on your own. Also ensure that you take the drug for the amount of time prescribed by your doctor, even if your condition begins to improve.
Interactions
Some drugs may interact with Merrem. To prevent any unwanted and dangerous drug interactions, inform your doctor about all the drugs that you are currently taking before you buy Merrem. This includes all prescription drugs, over-the-counter drugs, and herbal supplements.
