General Information On Naftin
Naftin is an antifungal drug that prevents the growth of fungus on the skin. The drug is used to treat skin infections like jock itch, ringworm and athlete’s foot. The generic name of this drug is Naftifine Topical. It is available as a topical gel as well as cream.
Side Effects for Naftin
Naftin may cause some minor side effects in patients, if at all. The most common side effects of Naftin include burning, dryness and stinging sensation in the area where the medication was applied. Contact your doctor if these side effects become bothersome or persist for a long time.
Allergic reaction may occur in a few patients who buy Naftin. The symptoms of an allergic reaction include rashes, hives and tightness in the chest. They also include irritation, itching and redness in the area where the medication was applied. Difficulty in breathing and swelling of the face, mouth, tongue and lips are also signs of an allergy to Naftin.
In case of Naftin gel, another sign of an allergy would be irritation and tenderness of the skin. Stop applying Naftin and seek immediate medical help if any of the symptoms of allergy are noticed.
Precautions
Do not apply dressings or bandages on the affected area that doesn’t let the air circulate. This includes occlusive dressings. You can use such bandages and dressing if they have been ordered by the doctor. Wear loose clothing that is preferably made of cotton while you are on Naftin medication. Do not apply Naftin in your nose, mouth and eyes.
Naftin may or may not be dangerous to an unborn child. Inform your doctor if you are pregnant or become pregnant during the course of treatment. Do not buy Naftin if you are breastfeeding, unless you have consulted with your doctor. Avoid wearing tight clothing made of synthetic material that does not allow enough air circulation.
Naftin Dosage
Apply Naftin as per the time set and for the duration prescribed by the doctor. Complete the treatment even if your symptoms improve. Clean and dry the area which is affected. Clean your hands and apply the cream as directed by the doctor. Once you have applied the cream, clean your hands and keep the applied area open to the air. You may apply light cotton gauze dressing to protect your clothing. You can also apply bandages if your doctor specifically prescribes it.
The recommended dosage for the cream is once daily. For Naftin Gel, the dosage is twice daily. Follow the dosage prescribed by your doctor if it is a different dosage that he/she has prescribed for you. An overdose of Naftin is very unlikely. Seek medical assistance if you feel that you have applied too much or if it is adversely affecting your skin. Inform your doctor if there is no significant improvement in your condition even after four weeks.
Interactions
Other topic medications may affect the effectiveness of Naftin. It is best to inform your doctor if you are already using any other skin medication. You may need to stop using other topical medications when you start using Naftin.
