General Information on Namenda
Namenda is intended for the treatment of moderate to severe dementia related to Alzheimer’s disease. An NMDA-receptor antagonist, this medication works by reducing the actions of certain natural chemicals (glutamate) in the brain that are linked to symptoms of Alzheimer’s disease.
Side Effects of Namenda
Possible side effects of this drug include: pain in the joints, rashes, frequent urination, dizziness, constipation, fatigue, nausea, swelling in the feet or hands, diarrhea, appetite loss, palpitations (rapid or irregular heart beat), weight loss, anxiety, and swelling of or around the eyes. Do not stop using the medication on your own if you notice any of the aforementioned symptoms. Instead, get in touch with your doctor immediately. Remember that your doctor has prescribed Memantine because he/she believes that the benefit of this medicine significantly outweighs the side effects.
Although not common, this medicine may cause a serious allergic reaction. Immediately stop the medicine and consult your doctor if you notice any of the following common symptoms of allergic reaction: hives, swelling/itching in face, throat, tongue, or lips, or breathing difficulty.
In rare cases, this drug may cause serious side effects. Rare but serious side effects of this drug include the following: tightness in the chest, fever, cough, breathing difficulty, hallucinations, confusion, heart palpitations, increased blood pressure, sudden weakness (especially on one side), seizures, persistent fatigue, easy bleeding/bruising, less urination than normal, and pale skin. If you notice any of the above-mentioned serious side effects, consult your doctor immediately.
If you are pregnant or are planning to become pregnant, then first consult your doctor before using the medicine. As it is unclear whether this drug passes into breast milk, mothers who are breastfeeding must consult their doctor before using this drug.
Precautions
Do not buy Namenda if you are allergic to it or to any of the ingredients used in the medicine. Before using this medicine, tell your doctor about your medical history, especially if you have: liver disease, kidney disease, cataract, epilepsy, or bladder infection.
This medicine may cause side effects that may impair your thinking or ability to react quickly. This is why you need to be extra cautious while performing activities that require you to be completely alert, such as driving or handling heavy machinery.
