General Information On Nardil
Nardil is a part of a group of medications known as MAOI (Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitors). This drug group increases the level of some chemicals in the brain. Nardil is used to treat certain symptoms of depression. The symptoms include sadness, anxiety, fear and hypochondria. This medication is not prescribed for treating bipolar disorder or severe cases of depression.
Side Effects for Nardil
Side Effects for Nardil include behavioral and mood changes, sleeping problems, panic attacks, impulsiveness, hostility, restlessness, anxiety and hyperactivity. Other side effects include irritability, agitation, and an increased level of depression and thoughts of suicide. You must call your doctor immediately if any of these side effects increase in severity after taking Nardil.
Serious side effects could also occur while taking Nardil. Some of these severe side effects include sudden and severe headaches, rapid weight gain, neck stiffness, nausea, vomiting, vision problems, hypersensitivity to light and lightheadedness. Some other mild side effects include dizziness, drowsiness, constipation and insomnia. Nardil may also cause impotence, decreased urination and dry mouth. You must stop taking the drug and seek immediate medical attention when you have any of these side effects.
Precautions
You must not buy Nardil if you have used any other MAOI 14 days before the start of the treatment. Examples of other MAOI include Marplan, Azilect, Eldepryl, Emsam and Parnate. Taking a medication which is a MAOI before the other drugs have cleared from your body can cause serious and life-threatening side effects. Inform your doctor if you have congestive heart failure, an adrenal gland tumor, or if you need any surgery where anesthesia is used. These conditions, along with liver problems, rule out the administration of Nardil to a patient.
Inform your doctor if you have high blood pressure, diabetes, heart disease, epilepsy or any other seizure disorder or schizophrenia. You may have to undergo special tests to determine your Nardil dosage if you suffer from the above conditions. You may also need to go through these tests if you have taken any other antidepressant within 5 weeks from the start of treatment.
Nardil Dosage
Nardil is available as an oral tablet of Nardil 15mg strength. Treatment would begin with rapidly increasing dosage. Once the patient is stable, the dosage is reduced. In the initial phase, dosage must be increased to at least 60mg per day. After stabilization, dosage may be 15mg per day.
Interactions
Diet pills, stimulants, ADHD medication, asthma mediation, cough and cold medicines and allergy medicines must not be used while you are on Nardil medication. Other medications known to interact with Nardil include L-tryptophan, Levodopa, Meperidine, Furazolidone, Procarbazine, Bupropion, Buspirone, Dexfenfluramine and Guanethidine.
Do not consume alcohol or any drug that makes you drowsy, like pain medication, muscle relaxers and medicines for anxiety and seizures. You must also not consume caffeine. You must stop using Nardil if you are using an antidepressant like Celexa, Cymbalta, Lexapro, Prozac, Sarafem, Luvox and Effexor. There are many medications that can interact with Nardil. Inform you doctor about all the medications you have had or are having before you buy Nardil.
