General Information On Neupogen
Neupogen is a synthetic protein that is meant for stimulating white blood cell growth in your body. The drug is used to treat neutropenia, which is a condition where there is a lack of white blood cells due to cancer, chemotherapy or bone marrow transplant. White blood cells are required by the body to fight infections.
Side Effects for Neupogen
An allergic reaction to Neupogen is characterized by hives, swelling of the face, lips, throat and tongue. Stop taking Neupogen and seek emergency medical help if any of these symptoms occur.
Other serious side effects of taking Neupogen include severe or sudden pain on the left side of your upper stomach that spreads up your shoulder; rapid breathing, or difficulty in breathing; and signs of infection. The signs of infection include fever, sore throat, chills, flu symptoms, nosebleeds, loss of appetite and bleeding gums. Some patients may also report nausea, vomiting, unusual weakness and mouth sores when on Neupogen treatment. You must inform your doctor if any of the above side effects occur while taking Neupogen.
Some minor side effects of taking Neupogen include bone pain, muscle ache, hair loss, fatigue, headache and mild skin rashes. Patients might also experience itching, redness or swelling in the area where the Neupogen medication was injected.
Precautions
Do not buy Neupogen if you are allergic to medications that contain E.Coli bacteria derivatives or Fligrastim, which is the generic name of Neupogen. Inform your doctor beforehand if you have a sickle cell disorder, chronic myeloid leukemia, blood disorder, myelodysplasia or preleukemia. You must also inform your doctor if you are receiving any form of radiation treatment or chemotherapy.
Neupogen may or may not affect the health of an unborn child. Inform your doctor if you are pregnant or if you are planning to become pregnant during the period of treatment. Do not take Neupogen if you are breast feeding a baby without confirming with your doctor.
Neupogen must not be administered less than 24 hours after a patient has undergone chemotherapy. Do not shake the bottle or the pre-filled syringe. Do not use the medication if it changed color or if it has particles. You must prepare your dosage only when you are ready to receive the injection.
Neupogen Dosage
Neupogen is available as an injection that is administered into a vein or under the skin. You may buy Neupogen if you have been shown how to administer IV at your home. You must not take Neupogen if you do not understand how to dispose the used needles, IV tubing, syringes and other items for administering the medication.
Administer the injection in different areas of the body each time. Ask your doctor for the best available areas to administer the injection. Do not inject Neupogen in the same place for two successive dosages.
