General Information on Nitoman

The active ingredient in the drug Nitoman is Tetrabenazine. The drug is primarily prescribed to patients suffering from movement disorders. This includes both categories of patients who suffer from disorders related to the nervous system such as Huntington’s disease, Tourette’s syndrome, Tic, and senile chorea, as well as disorders that are a result of antipsychotic drugs. Tetrabenazine belongs to the group of drugs referred to as monoamine depleting agents. It helps in reducing movement in patients who suffer from abnormally increased movement problems. It does this by reducing the levels of monoamines in the body.

Nitoman Side Effects

Some of the adverse reactions that are experienced by most patients using Nitoman are: a feeling of nervousness or anxiety, drowsiness, confusion, dizziness, restlessness, sleep disorders, weakness, fatigue, low blood pressure, disturbance in the gastrointestinal system such as diarrhea, pain in abdomen, constipation, and nausea/vomiting. However, many patients do not suffer any adverse effects at all. The intensity of side effects may also vary from very mild to quite severe in rare cases. In patients experiencing such side effects, the effects may be temporary or may continue for as long as the medicine is used.

Nitoman Precautions

It is important for a patient to share the information about pre-existing conditions and allergies with his or her doctor. Nitoman has the potential to cause impairment of coordination in many patients. Therefore, it is recommended that driving or tasks involving heavy machinery be avoided till one is sure that the coordination ability has not been impaired after taking the drug. The drug must not be given to patients suffering from depression and also shouldn’t be administered to pregnant women and children. Nursing mothers should also be careful and consult their doctors before using the medicine. Nitoman also can cause side effects similar to Parkinson’s disease in senior patients, and the doctor may need to adjust the dosage accordingly.

Nitoman Dosage

You can buy Nitroman in the form of Nitoman 25mg tablets. The starting dosage of the drug is 12.5 mg to be taken two or three times a day. The dosage is determined depending on the efficacy and tolerance of the drug. The dosage of Nitoman is increased gradually by 12.5 mg every 4-5 days until the right dose is achieved. The maximum tolerated dosage is 200 mg a day.

Nitoman Interactions

Nitoman is known to interact with, or has a potential to interact with many drugs. These include Levodopa, antidepressants such as Fluoxotine and Paroxetine, MAOI (monoamine oxidase inhibitors) such as Tranylcypromine, Phenelzine and Selegiline, neuroleptic agents such as Haloperidol and Metoclopramide, and many others. The list is not complete, and therefore, it is important that your doctor knows all the drugs that you are currently using. The doctor may then stop administering Nitoman, change the dosage, or change how a patient takes Nitoman. In addition, make it a point to read the patient information leaflet when you buy Nitoman.
