General Information On Oracea

Oracea is used for treating inflammatory pimple-like blemishes and bumps in adults caused due to Rosacea. Generic name of the drug is Doxycycline Monohydrate and it belongs to a class of drugs named tetracycline antibiotics. This medicine works by reducing inflammation of the skin caused due to the condition. You can buy Oracea in the form of oral capsules.

Side Effects for Oracea

Some Oracea patients complain of mild diarrhea or nausea, upset stomach, mild skin itching or rash, or vaginal discharge or itching. Usually, these side effects disappear within a few days. In case they persist for a considerable length of time, you must contact your doctor.

Contact your doctor if you experience any serious side effects of the drug such as blurred vision, dizziness, severe headache, fever, body ache, flu symptoms, chills, stopped urination, bloody or watery diarrhea, pale or yellow skin, weakness, dark urine, severe pain in upper stomach reaching the back, vomiting or nausea, fast heart rate, jaundice, loss of appetite, severe skin reaction, purple or red skin rash, skin pain, burning in the eyes or peeling and blistering. Seek medical help instantly if you experience symptoms of an allergic reactions.

Precautions

Your doctor is likely to advise you to not buy Oracea if you are allergic to Doxycycline Monohydrate or other tetracyclines such as demeclocycline or minocycline. In order to ensure this medicine is safe for you, tell your doctor beforehand if you are suffering from a liver disease, kidney disease, or asthma, or if you have allergy to sulfite. You should not use the medicine during pregnancy, as it can cause harm to the unborn baby. Oracea can lessen the effects of hormonal birth control pills, and so, it would be better to use a barrier form of contraception while on Oracea to prevent unwanted pregnancy. This drug also passes into the breast milk and can affect tooth or bone development in the baby. So, it is advised not to breastfeed during Oracea treatment. This medicine should also not be used by children less than 8 years of age.

Oracea Dosage

Recommended dosage is one Oracea 40mg capsule per day with full glass of water. Take this medicine in the morning or as specified by your doctor. If your stomach gets upset as a side effect of this medicine, take the medication after eating something. Your doctor will advise you not to lie down for at least 30 minutes after taking this medicine. For best results, it is essential you follow your doctor’s instructions completely.

Interactions

You should inform your doctor all the medicines you are using at present, especially medicines used for lowering cholesterol (such as colestipol or cholestyramine), antacids (such as Rolaids or Tums), drugs that contain bismuth subsalicylate (such as Pepto-Bismol), mineral supplements, blood thinners (such as warfarin), and pencillin antibiotics (such as amoxicillin or dicloxacillin).
