General Information on Paraplatin
Paraplatin or Carboplatin aqueous solution is available in the form of an injection and is used for treating advanced ovarian carcinoma or cancer, along with other cancer medicines for this condition. Paraplatin interferes with the growth of the cancer cells, slows down their rate of growth, and prevents their spread to other parts of the body. You can also buy Paraplatin for palliative treatment of ovarian cancer recurrent after chemotherapy, including post Cisplatin treatment.
Side Effects for Paraplatin
Vomiting is the most common side effect of Paraplatin, but if it does not stop on its own or if the condition worsens, you need to seek medical help from a professional. Paraplatin can also lead to blood disorders like anemia and bone marrow suppression, which may result in bleeding problems and infections. You need to contact your doctor immediately if you are noticing signs of infections like fever and persistent sore throat, unusual tiredness, swelling, rash, itching, dizziness, difficulty breathing, and easy bruising and bleeding. Other mild side effects associated with the drug include body ache, stomach pain, constipation, diarrhea, nausea and temporary hair loss.
If you notice some serious side effects after taking the injection, such as tingling or numbness in the hands or feet, yellowing of the skin or eyes, dark urine, hearing problems like ringing in the ears or hearing loss, blood in the urine, black or bloody stools and mouth sores, you should immediately contact your doctor and seek medical help.
Precautions
Tell your doctor if you have kidney or liver disease or if you have already received Paraplatin treatment in the past. The drug lowers your blood cell count, and this makes it easier to bleed even due to a minor injury. Therefore, you need to visit your physician regularly in order to get your blood tested. You should not take Paraplatin if you are pregnant, as it may harm the unborn baby. Use effective contraceptive methods during the Paraplatin treatment and inform your doctor immediately if you become pregnant during the treatment course.
Paraplatin Dosage
You can buy Paraplatin injections in 50, 150 and 450mg strengths, available in the form of sterile and lyophilized white powder single-dose vials. As a single agent, Paraplatin 360mg/m2 IV is given to the patient every 4 weeks, and the second injection is given only if the neutrophil count is 2000 and platelet count is 100,000. If the drug is being used for treating advanced ovarian cancer, then Paraplatin 300mg/m2 is given to the patient every 4 weeks in order to complete 6 cycles. This drug is combined with other chemotherapy medicines too in order to achieve the desired results and to minimize the side effects. The drug is injected in the vein of the patient through an IV, and in order to prevent side effects like vomiting and nausea, is given along with other medications to prevent nausea and vomiting.
Interactions
Paraplatin is not recommended if you are allergic to medications like Platinol and Eloxatin. Apart from that, you should also not take Paraplatin if you are already taking medicines for bowel disorders, organ transplant rejection, antibiotics, medicines for arthritis or pain, and anti-viral drugs.
