General Information on Permax

Permax is a medication used for treating tremors, stiffness, poor muscle control, and spasms associated with Parkinson’s disease. The generic name of the drug is pergolide and it belongs to the category of dopamine agonists. It works by stimulating dopamine receptors in the patient’s brain, thus relieving the symptoms of the disease. You can buy Permax in the form of oral tablets with 0.05, 0.25, and 1mg strengths.

Side Effects for Permax

Some of the mild side effects associated with Permax include decreased appetite, upset stomach, vomiting, mild nausea, constipation or diarrhea, dry mouth, insomnia, drowsiness, anxiety, or agitation. Most of these problems are easily manageable and subside on their own without any medical help. However, if any of these become intolerable, you should stop using the medicine and contact your doctor. Some other side effects that may require medical attention include hallucinations, altered consciousness, confusion, irregular heartbeat, and dizziness, especially when you get up from a lying or sitting position. An allergic reaction to the drug can be identified by swelling or itching of the face, throat, tongue, or lips, trouble breathing, and hives. If you experience any of these, you should immediately stop taking the tablets and seek medical help.

Precautions

You should not buy Permax if you have an allergy to pergolide or other similar medicines like ergotamine or dihydroergotamine. Before taking the drug, you should also inform your doctor if you have a breathing or lung problem like pleuritis, pleural effusion, or pleural fibrosis, heart problems like pericarditis or pericardial effusion, heart valve problems, irregular heartbeat, retroperitoneal fibrosis, or a liver or kidney disease. As the drug may cause drowsiness in some patients, you should not drive a vehicle or do any such activity that requires complete alertness; unless you are sure that this side effect is not prevalent in your condition and that you will be able to manage the situation. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, you should take Permax only if clearly indicated as it is not yet known whether it is safe during these conditions or not.

Permax Dosage

You may be advised to take Permax 0.5mg per day for the first two days, and after that, your doctor may advise you to take it 3 times a day. The dosage recommended to you depends on your age, weight, medical condition, other conditions you are suffering from, and other medicines you are taking in conjunction with Permax.

Interactions

Your doctor will not recommend you to buy Permax if you are already taking phenothiazines like fluphenazine, chlorpromazine, thioridazine or perphenazine, metoclopramide, thiothixene or haloperidol. Permax has the ability to increase the effects of certain drugs, which may include sedatives, antidepressants, pain relievers, anti-anxiety medicines, antihistamines, muscle relaxants, and alcohol. Therefore, you should consult with your doctor before taking any of these with pergolide. Apart from these, you should inform your doctor about all the medicinal products you are using at present, including prescription drugs, over-the-counter medicines, herbal products, and health supplements.
