General Information On Reclast
Reclast or Zoledronic acid belongs to the category of drugs termed as bisphosphonates, which is used for treating bone disease that causes weakness and abnormality in the bones. The medicine can also be used for treating bone loss or osteoporosis in women after menopause. You can also buy Reclast if you are taking corticosteroid medicines like Prednisone for a long period and want to prevent osteoporosis. Zoledronic acid slows the breakdown of the bones and keeps them strong, thus also reducing the risks of fractures.
Side Effects for Reclast
Some of the mild side effects that Reclast may trigger include cough, nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, constipation, diarrhea, tiredness, headache, mild muscle or joint pain, and swelling or redness in the site of the injection. You need to seek medical help immediately if you are not urinating at all, are urinating less than usual, or are noticing other symptoms including muscle spasms, a tingly or numb feeling around your mouth, pale skin, severe muscle, bone, or joint pain, unusual pain in your hip or thigh, bronchospasms that may trigger wheezing, breathing trouble, and tightness in the chest.
Precautions
Do not take Reclast if you are pregnant or breastfeeding or if you have low levels of calcium in your blood. Also tell your doctor if you are suffering from conditions like Aspirin sensitive asthma, malabsorption syndrome, bone cancer, kidney disease, thyroid disorder, or if you have got a part of your intestine removed through surgery. If you have some dental problems like loose teeth, jaw pain, or gum infections, then your doctor may recommend you to take a dental test before taking Reclast. As Zoledronic acid may affect the unborn baby, you should use two effective contraceptive methods during the treatment and inform your doctor immediately if you happen to get pregnant during the course of the treatment.
Reclast Dosage
A single dose of Reclast 5mg is usually given to an adult patient and is injected in the vein over a span of 15 minutes. However, the strength of the dose depends on the patient’s medical condition and his or her response to the treatment. You will be asked to drink 2 glasses of water before taking the injection and your doctor may also recommend that you take vitamin D and calcium for up to 2 weeks post injection. Usually, the medication is given only once a year for treating osteoporosis, but it may be repeated in between based on your medical condition and requirements.
Interactions
If you are taking another Zoledronic acid product for treating bone problems related to cancer, then you should not buy Reclast. Other products that contain Zoledronic acid or other similar medicines like Fosamax, Didronel, Boniva, Aredia, Actonel and Skelid must be avoided if you are taking Reclast. Other drugs that may interact adversely with Reclast include water pills like Bumetanide, Hydrochlorothiazide and Furosemide, and mineral supplements that contain calcium, phosphorus and magnesium. In addition to that, inform your doctor if you are taking other medicines that may harm your kidneys like Aminoglycoside antibiotics, Amphotericin B, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, Vancomycin, Tacrolimus, and Cyclosporine.
