General Information on Requip
Requip is used to treat the signs and symptoms of Parkinson's disease. These signs and symptoms include poor muscle control, tremors, and stiffness and muscle spasms. The generic name of the drug is Ropinirole. The medication belongs to a group of drugs known as dopamine agonists.
Dopamine is present in the brain and plays an important part in co-ordination of muscle movement. Less dopamine in the brain results in muscle stiffness. Requip increases the amount of dopamine which helps in reduction of symptoms of Parkinson’s disease. The medication is available in the form of a tablet. The medication is also used to treat moderate to severe restless legs syndrome (RLS). The drug may also cause side effects. Therefore, you need to consult your doctor before you buy Requip tablets.
Side Effects for Requip
Medicines react differently in different people. Some people may experience mild to severe side effects after taking Requip while some may not experience any side effects at all. The side effects of the medication are bit different for early and advanced stages of Parkinson’s disease. Patients at early stage of Parkinson’s disease may experience nausea, excessive tiredness and dizziness after taking the drug. Patients at advanced stage of Parkinson’s disease may also experience uncontrolled sudden movement besides side effects experienced by patient's at early stage of Parkinson’s disease. The side effects of the medication also changes with medical condition. Patient with restless legs syndrome may experience dizziness, excessive tiredness, vomiting, fatigue or nausea after taking Requip.
Precautions
Requip may not be the right medication for people having certain medical conditions. You should tell your doctor your medical history of blood vessel disease, kidney disease, liver failure, heart disease, sleeping disorders such as insomnia, sleep apnea or narcolepsy. You should also tell your doctor if you have smoking habit or alcoholism before starting the treatment. Women who are pregnant, plan to become pregnant or women who are breastfeeding should inform doctor before starting the treatment.
Requip Dosage
The dosage of Requip depends on different factors such as the medical condition (Parkinson’s disease or Restless legs syndrome) that is being treated, other medical conditions of the patient and other medicines that patient is taking. The medication is supplied in five different strengths. The five different strengths of Requip are Requip 0.25 mg, Requip 0.5mg, Requip 1.0mg, Requip 2.0mg and Requip 5.0mg. Doctors generally recommend an initial dosage of 1 tablet of Requip 0.25mg three times in a day to patient having Parkinson’s disease. Similarly, doctors may recommend an initial dosage of 1 tablet of Requip 0.25mg once in a day to patient with restless legs syndrome. A patient with RLS needs to take the dose three hours prior to bedtime. The medication can be taken with or without food. The dosage may be increased or decreased after studying the positive effects and side effects of the drug. You should exercise caution and buy Requip tablets only if recommended by your doctor.
Interactions
Requip may interact with prescription medicines, over the counter medication and herbal supplements and cause side effects. The drug may interact with medications such as Estrogens, Ciprofloxacin and other Dopamine antagonists. You should tell your doctor about every medicine you take to reduce the risk of drug interactions and side effects.
