General Information on Retin A Gel

Retin A Gel is used for the treatment of acne vulgaris. The generic name of the drug is Tretinoin. The drug is a vitamin derivative and works by increasing the skin cell turnover and reduces the tendency for skin cells to stick together. This greatly reduces the formation of acne and enables the quick healing of acne. Retin A Gel contains retinoic acid and vitamin A acid (tretinoin) in either of these two strengths: 0.01% or 0.0.25% by weight. Retin A Gel can prove effective to treat your acne problem and is also effective in treating stretch marks at an early stage. However, it is necessary to consult your doctor before you buy Retin A Gel.

Retin A Gel Side Effects

Some people may experience side effects after applying Retin A Gel, while some people may not experience any side effects at all. Some of the side effects that can be related to the drug are skin irritation, stinging at the application site, redness, sensitivity to sunlight, and peeling at the application site. You should contact your doctor if any of the side effects persist for a long time or become bothersome. The side effects may lessen with time.

Some people may experience severe allergic reaction after applying the medication. You should immediately consult your doctor if you experience allergic reactions such as hives, itching, rash, tightness in the chest, and swelling of the face, tongue, lips, or mouth. Some people may also notice severe redness, blistering, swelling, peeling, or crusting of the application site. These allergic reactions can be of a serious nature and may need immediate medical attention. It is necessary that you contact your doctor immediately if you notice any side effects or experience any allergic reactions.

Precautions

You should discontinue the use of Retin A Gel if you notice a chemical reaction or a reaction suggesting sensitivity. You should minimize your body’s exposure to sunlight, including sunlamps. People with sunburn should wait until they fully recover. The medication should be only applied after complete recovery from sunburn. People using Retin A gel may find weather extremes such as cold or winds unbearable.

People who cannot avoid sun exposure due to their occupation or people having inherent skin sensitivity should be extremely cautious while using the medication. They should use protective clothing or sunscreen products over treated areas if they cannot avoid exposure to sunlight. Tretinoin is generally safe for use during pregnancy. However, women should consult their obstetrician before they buy Retin A Gel and only use it if it is recommended.

Retin A Gel Dosage

Retin A Gel should be applied once a day (before retiring) to the skin area where the acne lesion appears on area which has stretch marks. The medication should be applied lightly to cover the affected area. You should be careful not to apply medication where treatment is not required.

Interactions

Tretinoin may react with products that have high concentrations of astringents, alcohol, or lime. Retin A Gel may also interact with abrasive cleansers, soaps, or cosmetics. You should take necessary precautions while using such products. If you are using any such products, you should wait for the effects to subside before you start using Retin A Gel to be on the safer side.
