Synthetic Vitamin D formulation which is used for therapeutic purposes is marketed as Rocaltrol. It is used in cases of calcium imbalance. Mainly used in hypoparathyroidism and other low calcium conditions, this medication is also used in metabolic bone disease ensuing from secondary hyperparathyroidism. Rocaltrol increases blood calcium level by enhancing the absorption of calcium from the gastrointestinal tract and also by reducing excretion of calcium through the kidneys. Side Effects/Precautions For Rocaltrol
