General Information On Seroquel
Seroquel or Quetiapine is an anti-psychotic medicine used for treating bipolar disorder or manic depression in people above 10 years of age. It is also used for treating schizophrenia in people more than 13 years of age. Your doctor may also recommend you to buy Seroquel with other anti-depressant medications in order to treat major depressive disorders in adults. Since the extended release of Quetiapine is not suitable for children, it should not be used for long periods by people less than 18 years of age.
Side Effects for Seroquel
Some of the mild side effects of the drug include weight gain, missed menstrual periods, stomach pain, constipation, increased appetite, breast discharge or swelling, nausea, vomiting, sore throat, dry mouth, dizziness, and drowsiness. You need to call your doctor if you notice behavioral or mood changes, anxiety, sleeping trouble, panic attacks, or if you are constantly feeling hyperactive, restless, aggressive, hostile, agitated, irritable, impulsive and are getting suicidal thoughts. Stop using the drug immediately and seek medical help if you are sweating or are experiencing rigid muscles, tremors, uncontrollable jerky muscle movements, trouble swallowing, blurred vision, seeing halos around lights, eye pain, increased urination and thirst, excessive hunger, flu symptoms like chills, fever and body ache, white patches, and sores on your lips or inside the mouth, and fruity breath.
Precautions
You may get suicidal thoughts, especially during the first few weeks of starting the medicine, particularly if you are less than 24 years of age. Visit your doctor regularly during this phase so that he/she can check your mental condition for at least the first 12 weeks of starting the treatment. Seroquel should not be taken in tandem with medications for psychotic conditions associated with dementia. The drug may lead to heart failure, pneumonia or sudden death in older patients with dementia conditions.
You should also inform your doctor if you are already suffering from kidney or liver disease, heart disease, heart rhythm problems, high blood pressure, thyroid disorder, seizure, epilepsy, cataract, triglycerides, high cholesterol, diabetes or face problems while swallowing. In addition, inform your doctor if you have a history of heart attack or stroke or a low white blood cell count. As the drug causes dizziness, you should avoid driving a vehicle or doing any such activity which requires you to be fully alert.
Seroquel Dosage
Initially, you will have to take Seroquel 25mg twice a day, but after that, the dose may be increased to Seroquel 50mg 2-3 times per day. You should not change the dosage of the medicine yourself, as doing so may result in adverse reactions or even death. Your doctor may also change your dosage from time to time in order to make sure that you are getting the best results. Take this drug with a full glass of water, with or without food. Swallow the whole pill at once without crushing, chewing or breaking it.
Interactions
Your doctor will not recommend you to buy Seroquel if you are already using medicines like Cimetidine, Lorazepam, steroids, antibiotics, anti-fungal medicines, HIV medicines, anti-depressants, seizure medications, medicines for treating heart conditions or high blood pressure and Parkinson’s disease. Inform your doctor of all medications you are taking.
