General Information On Starlix

Starlix is an anti-diabetic agent prescribed in addition to diet control and exercise for controlling sugar levels in patients suffering from Type II diabetes. The generic name of Starlix is nateglinide and it belongs to the class of meglitinide glucose lowering medications. Starlix is a tablet for oral consumption and helps regulate blood sugar levels by stimulating the production of insulin from the beta cells of the pancreas. It is only useful for treating patients suffering from non-insulin dependent Type 2 diabetes. This medicine will not be helpful for people suffering from Type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis. Starlix also reduces the chances of diabetic retinopathy, loss of sexual libido, nerve problems, and kidney disorders.

Side Effects for Starlix

When you start using Starlix, you may experience sudden weight gain or low blood sugar levels, especially if you are using other anti-diabetic medicines or exercising excessively. Some of the common symptoms that indicate hypoglycemia include cold sweats, chills, drowsiness, dizziness, fast heartbeat, fainting, increase in appetite and thirst, weakness, and tingling of the hands and feet. On the other hand, improper doses can result in high sugar levels or hyperglycemia that includes increased urination, flushing, confusion, rapid breathing, and drowsiness. When you buy Starlix, you may rarely experience a serious side effect, but if you notice allergic reactions such as swelling of the throat, tongue, or face, rash, breathing problems, and dizziness, stop using this drug and consult your doctor immediately.

Precautions

Inform your doctor if you are allergic to nateglinide or using any other diabetic medicines. You should also inform your doctor if you suffer from gout, liver disorders, or kidney disease. As Starlix usage can make you dizzy, do not use machinery, drive, or perform any task requiring high alertness after you use this medication. Do not consume alcohol when you are using Starlix. Pregnant women and lactating mothers should consult their doctors before using this drug. If you have any food allergies or are allergic to some other substance and suffer from pituitary or adrenocortical disorders, consult your doctor before you buy Starlix.

Starlix Dosage

Starlix 60mg and Starlix 120mg are the strengths of this drug. The medicine should be taken 15-30 minutes before eating food. If you skip your meals, do not take Starlix as it can lower your blood sugar levels. If you miss a dose, take the next dose at the regular time. Do not take two doses of this medicine at the same time. Store the medication at room temperature away from light, heat, moisture, pets, and small children.

Interactions

Inform your pharmacist about any herbal, prescription, or non-prescription drugs that you are using before you buy Starlix. This anti-diabetic medication can interact negatively with drugs like NSAIDs, salicylates, beta adrenergic blockers, monoamine oxidase inhibitors, imidazoles, gemfibrozil, cortesteroids, rifampin, or thyroid medications. Do not stop using this medication or change its dosage without first consulting your doctor, as doing so can lead to unwanted risks and complications.
