General Information On Strattera

Strattera contains a drug called Atomoxetine, which belongs to the class of selective norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors. The medication works by restoring the amount of certain neurotransmitters in the brain that are responsible for controlling a number of important functions. Patients treated with Strattera attain better abilities to focus, concentrate and to pay attention. The medication must be taken only if recommended by a licensed doctor.
Side Effects for Strattera
Breathing difficulty, hives and swelling in the face and around the throat are among the most common side effects associated with Strattera. You must talk to the doctor if you experience chest pain, irregular heartbeat, aggression, hallucinations and unusual thoughts. Side effects like nausea, pain in the stomach, loss of appetite, abnormal stool color, increased blood pressure, numbness, tingling, and jaundice-like symptoms must also be reported to the doctor. Decrease in sexual desire, ejaculation problems, severe headache, weakness, change in vision, constipation, skin itching, and dizziness are among the less common side effects that may be caused by Strattera.
Precautions
Patients suffering from glaucoma are usually not advised to take Strattera. You must report any past records of heart disease, liver disease, low blood pressure, mental disorders and mood disorders. If you suffer from irregular heartbeat or have had coronary artery disease or stroke in the past, it is essential to discuss them with doctor before starting the medication. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or are planning to get pregnant in the near future. Long term use of Strattera is not recommended, especially in children. As the medication may result in dizziness, limit activities like driving, using machines, and others that require alertness and attention.
Strattera Dosage
Weight is an important factor when determining the dosage of Strattera in children, as well as in adolescents. Those weighing less than 70 kg should be given a daily dose of anywhere between 0.5 mg and 1.2 mg per kg of Strattera. Note that the dose for individuals in this group should not exceed Strattera 100 mg per day. For those weighing more than 70 kg, the recommended daily dose is between Strattera 40 mg and Strattera 80 mg. The medication may be taken with or without food. Available in the form of capsules, the medication must be taken strictly as per the doctor’s prescription.
Interactions
MAO inhibitors are strictly prohibited while getting treated with Strattera as the two medications can interact to cause serious health conditions. Inform your doctor before taking cold and cough medications and asthma drugs along with Strattera. Antidepressants and sleep medications too must be discussed with the doctor before you take them while using this medication. Albuterol, Bupropion, Celecoxib, Doxorubicin, Metoclopramide, Ranitidine and Terbinafine are among the medications that are known to interact with Strattera.
